Default how do you make the 02 2.5RS go fast?

Hey everybudy, i just want to know if any of you know how i can make my Auto 02 2.5RS Impreza go faster. How faster? Like WRX speed/acceleration hopefully. Well i know the 0-60 for 2.5RS is 7.8 and 1/4 is 16.1. How can i get it around 6.5-6.8/15.1-15.5 w/o nitrous? What kind of mods do i need for the car? How much money do I have to spend?
Thx in advance.

well, theres a lot that could be used to answer that question, start off with the simple intake, then go to your local exhaust shop and have them make u headers and an exhuast, you can have this done from them for about 400 out the door, compared to the Borla system which will run you about a G. Then if you aren't broke, start messing with the suspension, harder bushings will give you a much better feel. Add sway bars, struts bars, some new struts, lower springs. If you still aren't broke, then go back to the engine and add cams. You can't just add a bunch of horespower and expect it to do well, you need a solid platform to handle it(suspension upgrades), just spend some time reading around here, you'll learn a lot. One thing to rememeber though, you can't think of Honda, Toyota anymore, think more Lexus, BMW, because thats how much the parts are. But you're getting good quality, our parts are not made a dime a dozen like the rest.

Default dude search search search

Hey let me give you a tip as a fellow newbie. The search function on this board is pretty good its in the upper right hand corner. Like lets take your question "how do i make the RS go faster???" You need to narrow your questions that way you will get the most information possible. If you know you want to install a CAI (cold air intake) do a search on CAI's. You will notice there will be several products when your search results come back. Read the posts in the "Cars parts" forum for reviews on these parts. If your lucky some threads provide a chart for comparing the performance difference between the intakes. Do the same with exhaust and headers. Make your decision on what setup looks like to you then post a question like "What kind of performance gains can i expect from setup?" you will notice you will get more people responding to your thread than just one person. Also even if you do responses by asking a broad question its most likely to confuse you more cause your getting a whole bunch of peoples different setup .....like intakes for example ....you have Ganzflow people, Cobb people, weapon R people and they all are gonna say their intake is the best........ooooooooo who to believe.......Bottom line research first then ask ......I noticed this to be the best way to get knowledge. This is a good tip. Moderators do you concur????

Default thx for the tip

thx for the tip, i'll do that, i didn't know that different setups provide big performance differences
i thought if you just add intake/exhaust/cams/headers, then the car will go faster, i didn't know different brands and everything made a difference
ok thanks anyway, i'll try and see if i can get anything from the search

yeah, narrow it down. First off, you have big dreams. Anything shy of a turbo kit, you will end up dropping thousands of dollars to hit WRX speed and handling.

oh, and for reference, an intake, and full exhaust will be WAY more than $500. Just headers are $500, intake $200-300, cat-back $600, hi-flow cats $200-300.

not necessarily, you don't have to go out and buy the best exhaust and headers out there. A good muffler shop can mandrel bend any size, any material pipe that you want for a fraction of the cost. You can even go in there with your own design, or another companies, you just the blueprints, or a good scaled drawing on autocad. If you just do a little work, it'll pay off in the long run.

Just wondering why you didn't buy a WRX like everyone else? Your going to spend just as much to get it that fast and then you won't have any Warranty and your car won't like going that fast so you will just get CEL all the time. Don't get me wrong but I love my RS but this was before 02. I'll stop before i get any more flamed.

Default lots of help

thanks for all the advice guys, i wanna get a wrx but i don't have the money for it and because it's 36K CAN for an auto tran and there's gonna be 17% tax on that equalling out to more than 40K. So i wish i could get a wrx but can't, and i got my RS for 24K plus tax, so that's a pretty big savings. Man all those mods gonna make me so broke im gonna have to eat bread and butter every meal for 2 yrs. How about getting a turbo kit for the car, isn't that the easiest way to make it go fast? But then friends say if i get a kit, i gotta have a proper setup for exhaust/intake... and it'll end up costing me even more. I just wanna make my car go fast w/o nitrous.
