Default tires size with stock 16" rims?

What tires size can I put on my 16" stock rimes....it come with 205/55 (or50?) /16 stock.

Can I put larger tires on these rims without affecting the speedometer too much ?

Sorry for this noob question

225 50 is all you'd want to throw in 6.5" wheels for the street. No speedo change.

Oversize tires (diameter) will always effect the speedometer. The only question is how much error your willing to put up with.

Go to "tirerack . com" and look at the revs/mile specs for the tires. Your speedometer error will be in direct proportion with the difference in revs/mile between the stock tire and the new tire.

For example if one tire has a revs/mile of 830 (which if I recall correctly is the stock potenza RE-92), and the other has a revs/mile of 854 then your speedometer will be in error by 854/830 = 1.0289 or a 2.89% error.

That means at a true ground speed of 60 mph, the new tire would read 2.89% low or 58.3 mph on the speedometer. As a result you would be running a bit faster than the speedometer said you were if you were showing 65 mph on the speedometer, with the new tire you would actually be going 2.89% faster or 66.87 mph.

In my experience its not much of an issue until speedometer error gets up around 10% then you will be running 5-10 mph faster than the speedometer says at highway speed. If your not careful that can get you a ticket if you push the speed limit anyway.

There are people running both 215/45/16 tires and 225/50/16 tires on the stock WRX wheels. Check out the Tire Size Calculator above to see how much of a difference it will be, but 225/50/16 is almost dead on to the 205/55/16 tire size in terms of Revs/Min (actually it looks like it is saying it IS Dead On, but different tires will vary that amount ( + ) or ( - ).

225/50/16 is the size you want to go with for a slightly wider tire... I would only do a "plus zero" size like that with a stiff side-walled tire though. Next time post in the right forum and search said forum prior to posting. Thanks. Oh and that size will not affect the speedo at all, it is simply a slightly wider tire...the external diameter is the same as stock size. If you are looking for a lower profile tire on your stock rims then you're gonna screw with your speedo reading.

Yes 225/50/16 is wider than the stock tires... Any difference in circumference can be measured in mm and is negligible. Thus the reason it is referred to as a "plus zero" size. That size will not affect your speedo reading, period.
