Default Creaking sound, coming from brakes

A few weeks back I posed about a creaking sound at lower speeds accompanied by a squeaking at higher speeds. New brake pads were recommended, and that fixed it for a while. It's back again. I should also mention that I had the rotors turned a while back, and since then I've noticed this odd pad-shaped silhouette on all of the rotors, the most defined of which is on the front left, where the sound seems to be coming from. Are my rotors borked?

Many times when you get the brakes hot and then stop the car completely, the pads will leave an outline / silhouette on the rotor. It's not usually a big deal so long as there are no actual cracks.

However, if one rotor is showing a very noticeable outline, that's a problem. You have a sticky caliper that is on it's way to becoming completely frozen. It happened to me on the left front on my old '97.

It could just be the slide pins, or it could be an actual bad piston (as it was in my case). If you want to fix or replace brakes yourself, I suggest you read up for a while in the Brake forum.

Nothing about your brakes functionality is Legacy-specific, as all Subaru single and dual piston brakes are pretty much the same.

This is an interesting post, as my car was (is still at times) doing this after putting on RacingBrake rotors and Hawk HPS pads. I started to experience a bad vibration with a slight knocking noise under moderate braking. I pulled it all apart to find that a pin was seized on the passenger front caliper. I brushed the rust out and re-greased everything and put it back together. Its much better than before, but I still have a shake in the steering wheel and a pulse in the brake pedal. Do this seem like a warped rotor, or something more serious?

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I have been looking all over for info on this problem and have not been able to find anything.

thanks,
-BB98

Also check dust shields mine touch rotors sometimes and make grinding noise. Especcialy after you do anything around the wheel area.

So my first step should be to give the slider pins a good greasing. I did notice that when I replaced my pads the one that the noise seems to be coming from was a bit stiff. I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

As for cracks in the rotor, how noticeable would they be? They look fairly smooth other than the slight outlines.

-edit-

Also, any guides on greasing the slider pins around here? Is it just as simple as greasing the hole and the bolts?

I figured the slider pins out, gave the ones on the suspect side both a good lube, took it for a spin and heard the exact same noise. I'm stumped. The front rotors don't have any guards or shields, so that can't be it.

Also, how freely is the lower slider supposed to slide? It seems awfully stiff even after I lubed it up.
