yes 245/40's require at least an 8.0 rim 225/45's are about as wide as you could go on a 7 inch rim

i was thinking that i could run at least a 235...i have re070's on right now of an STi and they seem to fit pritty good, and looks like i can even run a bigger tire then that w/o a proble.

Depends on the tires. 245 R comps on 7" wheels is pretty common. And 235 street tires on 7" wheels happens quite a lot too.

It really depends on whether this tire is being used for autox/track, or the street.

even MORE reason for using the correct wheel size.

225/45 is the widest ya should do on a 7"

...some of the autox d0000ds jam wide tires on skinny wheels due to the rules....it is NOT a good idea for most of us to try to follow those rules

A random q.
But does anyone know if anyone has ever de-beated a tire from running to wide of a tire on a skinny rim? i can imagine that the side loads exerted on the sidewall can cause this if they are not stiff enoughf.
