Default Need quick help with Rear diff

Ok so im changing the fluid on my rear diff, its on perfectly level ground, not jacked up or anything, how can i tell when its full? When oil starts to run OUT of the fill hole?

should I stick my finger through the fill hole and see if I can "touch" the oil?

How do you guys range this?

I fill until the oil starts to overflow.
According to my manual, the STi uses 1.0-1.2 qts.
