225 45's won't be bad at all in that tire. Might have to run a little higher pressures to firm up the turn-in feel, but the 45 series will only be helping you in that department over the 225 50.

Shorter gearing is nice too!

Bumping an ancient thread

I just want to verify that 225 45's are a viable choice for a stock 6.5" rim.? Is this correct? I'm currently shopping for new tires and want to be sure that the 225 45 isn't too wide for the rim.

I'm on my 2nd set of 225 50's but would like something a bit shorter sidewalled as the 50's are a little bit squishy.

My other option is a 215 45, which I use for auto-x, but those are a hard to find size as well.

Thanks!

I would use the 225/45 if you can...less squishy...or the 215/45 if you can get a good tire in that size...and the gearing will be a bit better for acceleration

best $$$ bet I think for autox

I'm looking pretty hard at the Falken 452's again. They are just about the only relatively cheap $$$, but decent tire in that size category. I've got them on now in the 225-50 size.

The Kumho XS's look like a great Performance tire. Unfortunately, I'm looking for a DD tire right now and the XS's look to have scary reviews as far as wet weather goes.

Good to know about the Kook V12's. I was considering them.....not anymore.

I like the way the car handles with the 215-45's, handling is sharp and even acceleration is quicker, but (this sounds lame I know) they look weird. Its like they are super small or something.

That was my reasoning behind looking at the 225-45's.

Oh crap.

I ordered the FK-452's yesterday in the 225-45-16. I have them in 225-50-16 currently and liked how the tires handled for the most part, but just thought a little less sidewall height would be beneficial.

Anyway, I was just looking at the Falken website and saw this:

Should I cancel the order?

No, they'll be fine. I ran that exact size, but the 451's, on my 05 WRX back in 05.

Thanks!

I was just looking again at their website. Out of curiosity I looked at what rim size they recommended for the 215-45-16 Azeni RT-615. (My current auto-x tire) They also show a minimum 7.0" rim width.
This is confusing because that Azeni is a PERFECT fit to the stock wrx rim.

I was sweating there for a second.
