Default *HELP* Changing only 2 tires???

I went to get 2 new tires today and the people at the shop told me i need to replace all 4. They told me replacing only 2 will cause my tires to rotate at different speeds and cause my transfer case to wear out. It's not that all four need to be replaced, it's just that they want the same size tires on each wheel.

Anyone heard this before or are they just wanting to sell me 4 tires?

The better question is "Is there anyone else here who HASN'T heard this?"

Yes, you can damage your drivetrain with mis-matched tires.

My sway bar links broke a while ago which has caused my front tires to wear quicker. THat's my fault. I haven't rotated the tires....ever....it's been 35k miles. Thats also my fault. I've been too concerned with adding power. Now that i have it where i want, i need new tires. I haven't even taken notice.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say your swaybar didn't affect your tire wear. The fronts just wear faster. That's why you need to rotate them.

After 35k miles, the rears are too worn to use with new fronts. RTFMsomething1/4"CircumferenceDifferenceAllowedsomething.
