Exclamation Problem Poll (2002 WRX Only)

Everyone loves a good problem poll!

My last poll sort of died out from lack of interest and participation so I thought I would make a new (2002 WRX only) poll and change the topics a bit. Here are the results from the last poll below if anyone is curious.

http://www.i-club.com/forums/poll.ph...lts&pollid=475

It's funny, out of the thousands of people on the I-Club, only 44 people took the time to check a box on the last poll but others will go and type pages worth of text ranting about a problem. If you have a problem with your 2002 WRX, please participate in the Poll. Bump the thread as needed to keep it current.

Thumbs up bump

I hope other people add their radiator problems as well. My carhas been waiting over a week for Subaru to ship a radiator to the dealer. I hope it's on the way. The original one leaks at the seams. Crimping metal to plastic does not seem like a quality piece to me. I'm told it's a "Calsonic" brand radiator. Never heard of it, but some yokel must have been pi**ed off the day he made mine. Good thing it didn't blow completely.

Well, you can tell me how to make a Poll that accepts more than one vote...maybe I'm doing it wrong

or

You can tell us what's wrong on a post and pick the problem that is causing you the most grief.

Guys,

This isn't suppose to be a scientific poll and I don't think SOA is going to pass it around the research and design or quality control office. It's just for our info. I find it comforthing that out of 24 votes, 10 people have had no problems and the others have had different problems. There really doesn't seem to be one major problem that plagues all WRXs. Only more votes will tell.

I notice a lot of hits on this thread, some people are still to lazy or don't know how to vote. Or maybe people are just curious and keep looking at the poll to see whats going on. Anyway, vote, or don't complain

As for my WRX, it's still to new to have uncovered any problems, but so far so good, only very minor complaints for me.....the Pros of this car far exceed the cons.

So far so good.....

No Problems/ Minor Problems is still the winner!

Default Deceleration noise

I think you should add deceleration noises as a choice. Although there are various theories as to what the noises are, no one seems to know for certain, so we can't say whether it's the engine, or transmission, or suspension, etc. These are noises that appear when you take your foot off the gas and are decelerating through around 3000 rpm's. Myself, I have two noises: one low, grinding-type noise that I hear most in 3rd gear, and one higher, "tinny" vibrating noise that I hear most in 2nd gear.

Can't add to or change the poll once it's posted.

As for your noise, I bet you have a shift kit and/or hard shift bushings installed. My SYMS shifter made a grinding/vibration noise when decelerating. The noise can be best described as sounding gritty. Put the stock shifter back in and the noise went away. So if it's your shifter, that goes under (Manual Trans). If it's not a stock component problem, don't vote!

Ok, it it's not the shifter, then the provided thread points to the Trans components so it still would go under (Manul Trans)....

Thanks, but it's not the shifter (mine is stock, by the way). Here's a thread describing the noise and what people have tried to do to eliminate it. As you can see, no one really knows what causes it or whether it's a serious issue.

I guess no news is good news, because I haven't experienced any major problems yet (hear that, that was me knocking on wood).

*CEL - ECU needs to be reflashed
*Deceleration noises
*Creaking noise from front struts/springs (dealer had no clue, I fixed w/ some good lube between springs and where they sit on the strut housing)
*Too many interior rattles to count (stuffing pieces of foam weatherstripping in nooks and crannies has helped quiet some)
*"Clunk" when driver's front window is completely lowered
*Grinds going into reverse 75% of the time
*Very hard time shifting into first
*Carpet under driver's feet is wearing quickly. Problably will have a hole in it soon. Yes, I do have floor mats.
**Car still makes me smile every time I drive it.

The ECM's going in Monday to be reprogramed. Wonder what kind of rental I'll end up with?

You never know. I worked for a company who actually paid people to monitor and post on various message boards. They wanted to know everything everyone was saying about them. I say the more complaints the better! Maybe they will pick one up someday and decide to fix it.

Default deceleration noise!

please see: http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...hreadid=103494 (i know, it's been mentioned in this tread, but i want to back this up.)

The deceleration noise has been problem on my WRX since day one and I now have 1600 miles and it's deff not getting any better. My car is 100% stock and purchased w/ 30miles on it. This is *not* a normal noise for any car AWD or not. I will be trying to do a audio capture of the noise this week and posting it.

I also think it's one of those major issues that should be mentioned, but I voted for the tranny option.

If anyone asked me I would tell them not to buy WRX until they can have this resolved. I almost kinda would have to say I would rather return my WRX if I was going to stuck with this noise, but I'm being positive for now assuming that SOA and/or my dealership will be handling the issue promptly.

Exclamation

As I said before, can't changed the poll once it's started. If your noise is transmisson related, then choose transmissson.

Next poll I make will just be on the top two or three problems on this poll and I will add the deceleration noise.

No problems and no worries here. Hey, Shaggee, my drivers side window makes a clunk when it goes all the way down too! Frightened me the first time but I now think it adds to the car's personality.

I voted for "CEL, reset only". Actually, they took it in for 3 days to replace the ECU (this was one of the earlier cases, which the dealer did not want to do reprogramming themselves, and instead SOA decided to replace the ECUs). I didn't put it in the "CEL, repair" because I didn't think it was that severe. I believe the ECU parameters in the earlier release needed some more tweaking to prevent false alarms.

Removing the ECU and sending it in to be re-flashed would have fallen under "ECU Repair". A reset is just that...a reset

Also, sorry I didn't make the poll multiple choice....I just figured that one out on a new poll.

I have a weird clunk while turning right up an incline, a clicking noise going over bumps that seems to be coming from the passenger pillar between the doors, and my windows clunk when the windows are rolled down.

I haven't brought it in for warranty work on any of the items.

Other than those, no complaints or regrets with my purchase.
