Default Legacy L vs Outback Gas MIleage?

How does the gas mileage compare on the 2.2L and the 2.5?

Also, can you use 87 in the 2.5?

Thanks!

My GT get's a little over 300 to a full tank with 70% city, 30% highway driving.

Also, you can use 97 in the 2.5, but why? Get the cheap ****.

you'll get better millage in the 2.2 than the 2.5. the manual says like 1mpg more. haha.. so its pretty much the same. although my old 92 legacy with a 2.2 gets close to 30mpg. but I think thats cause of the gearing. at 80 in the outback i'm at 3500rpm and in the L sedan i'm at 3000rpm at 80. much nicer on the freeway.

well i'm trying to decide between an outback and a Legacy rigth now.. The outback has just had the timing belt, head gasket, water pump all changed out so i'm not too concerned about blowing a HG.. but i didnt want to sacrifice gas mileage or any additional cost for that.

With identical driving habits 2.2 will give slightly better milage, all other things equal, which is typically not true. If 2.5 is newer - it may very well be that it will give you higher mpg. Or older but with new oxygen sensor.
I think 96 2.5 require premium gas.
