Default Please assist!!!

I have a 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.2L with a 5 speed. An issue with starting the car arised recently. The car sounds as though it wants to turnover, but the engine refuses to turnover.

Here's a summarization of recent events leading to today

1. I lost my gas cap and drove capless for two days until starting issues arised. Initially, I thought someone sabotaged my car with a present in my gas tank. I had little gas so I refueld.

2. The temperature dropped significantly. I thought I had issues with fuel system pressurization so I used a winter glove as a substitute for a gas cap and the car immediately started.

3. I bought a new gas cap from the local Subaru dealership. Car starts perfectly. I thought all issues were resolved.

4. The starting issue arised again, but I held the gas pedal down and the car finally started after 15 minutes. The initial startup was very rough, but idle smoothed out after a couple of minutes. I had a flashing CEL for a couple of minutes, then it disappeared.

5. Today, I had no luck starting the car. I replaced battery thinking it is issue. No change except a fresh supply of juice.

Is the culprit of my starting issues a MAP sensor? Or a MAF sensor? If neither, any suggestions? Please assist!

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Benny

Unfortunately, I can't start my car so I can drive to the closest automotive places to pull the codes. If I pull the codes, what next? Why does the temp code matter?

Any other suggestions? Thank you for your reply.

My car mysteriously started with no issues. However, as I drove and deaccelerated, the rpms would nearly drop to 0. I would give the car gas to keep the engine alive.

Anyone?

it isn't turning over??? don't bother looking at your fuel system then. You could have easily burnt up the starter with all that cranking. Starters generally shouldn't be used more then 15-20 seconds without sitting for at least a minute to cool off. If you cranked more or less continously for 15 minutes that would have easily been enough to kill a starter.

I would let it cool and try again. The car started perfectly this morning. I did have an issue with the car nearly bogging out during deacceleration. I'm lost at this point.

i had a similar problem with my old car (explorer) and it turned out that the fuel injectors being almost completely clogged was the problem... fuel injector cleaner worked pretty well, just dont use too much... that can turn out badly

Thanks again everyone. I haven't worked on my car since the weekend so I didn't try any suggestions.

As for an update on my car, it starts every time I try, but the engines idles roughly upon initial startup. After five seconds, it normalizes and drives. I have an issue with the car acting as though it wants to die after deceleration. I'll change the O2 sensor and fix my exhaust leak this weekend. It's the least I can do for my wagon. Any more suggestions?
