Personally, I believe Federal Tires to be on the lower end of the performance tire spectrum. Good entry level tires due to the cost, but FAR better tires out there as long as you are willing to spend some money on your tires.

yeah, i was thinking of getting something closer to an entry level summer- like the kuhmo spt http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=ECSTA+SPT or the bfg g-force sport http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....=g-Force+Sport

do you think the federals would be comparable or should i just stick with the kuhmo or bfg?

I have been using the 595RS for a ~15k miles now....~2/3 gone.... and I really like them....

can't say about any of the other Federal tires, but for DD street tires.....the 595RS are GREAT

These are as good as or better than many of the other tires I've used....Including the Kumho MX and the Falken 451 and the Falken 215

i have g-force sports and they are nice. No complaints. Even were decent in the snow. I wont recomend you use them all winter though. Federals are not good though, my went through his in about a month. Crappy handling to.

I use the federal's on my Turbo'd Accord. They hook up well off the line. They handle decent, good turn-in response with the buldged sidewall they have. They wear decent, a lil faster then most all seasons. I will keep buying them

I think it is important to make sure we are all on the same page, here....which it appears we are NOT

I have the '595RS'

http://www.federaltire.com.tw/en/htm...&pdline=1&ID=3

which is TOTALLY different from the '595SS'

http://www.federaltire.com.tw/en/htm...&pdline=1&ID=1

They are NOT in the same performance catagory and should NOT BE CONFUSED.

....yeah, because we all know how rational it is to judge a tire by brand name and price alone. ....common sense FTW!

You just can't discount any single brand of tires these days...

I remember a while back, Falken made absolute crap...

Same thing with Hankook, still a long way to go but the 212s have been fabulous for the price. They make some decent snows and a/s too.

I like to try the 595RS but they don't offer the sizes I want in 16s. It's a shame that neither DTD or TR carries them at this point.

God forbid someone have their own opinion. Yeah Im real clueless about tires. But Ive noticed something about you Uncle Scotty. If someone says anything thats not within your lines of thinking theyre deemed clueless. Hey show us some comparisons between Coopers and some leading brands. Educate us with facts and figures. Please.

My comments were directed at your useless assessment. If you could provide reasons why you dislike the brand/model instead of just chiming in with sophomoric responses like "Federal tires FTMFL!", I might take you seriously. Scotty provided useful input based on his own experience. Personally, I don't have any experience with this particular model or the brand. I've read some positive reviews elsewhere and wandered into to this thread to read what others had to say about them.

.....how long have YOU had ANY UHP/MAX performance tires on YOUR car????

which ones and for how long????

I have had the 595RS on my car for ~1 year and 14k miles....

...and in the last ~100k miles.....I've had the RT-215 Falkens.....Kumho MX....Falken 451....Hankook Z212 and I have driven many other tires on other Subaru's

I REALLY like the 595RS over all of the others as far as noise is concerned....and over all but the MX for DD, street use.

the above only includes tires on MY 2 WRX's and other Subarus I've driven.......I have used MANY-MANY UHP/MAX performance tires since the mid '80's

NEXT.....

For DD, street use....they are RELLY good.....and since they got down to the sticky base layer of rubber they are REALLY and noise is less that 1/2 of other tires I've used, lately.

They are REALLY quiet, overall....and break away so smoothly and easily...

...20k for sure---unless a road hazard does them in, first

....and I would, very happily, get these tires again

They have quite surprised me, all around.

Have you driven on the 595RS in the wet Uncle Scotty? If so, how are they? I have been tempted by these tires for a while now.

...they are actually quite good......MUCH better than the RT-215 was.

They aren't as good as the 451.....but they won't hydroplane at reasonable speed....even in a tropical thunderstorm like we get here in flowiduha.

No nasty surprises in their character.....I've overcooked things a couple times and had a couple events and they just break away....scrub speed and go right back to what they were about, no drama, no huhu.

They DO run quite wide......the 235/40 is too wide, IMO, for a 7.5" wide wheel...a 225/45 or an 8" wide wheel would be better.

Nice, I ran Kumho MX on my old wheels and liked them for DD for the amount of rain we get up here. Looks like I will check out the 595RS next time...but where the heck are they sold? The only place I can see is direct from Federal.
