Default Cold start problem

My wife has an 05 LGT that has problems starting in the winter when the temps get really cold.....she has taken it to the dealer only to find out they couldn't find a problem (they left her car inside of the garage at the dealership to duplicate it, we told them we don't have a garage thus the car is always exposed). The problem is when I go out and start her car in the mornings (and the temps are 15F or colder) nothing happens, no click whatsoever, then wait approx. 5 minutes and the car fires right up...any ideas

Hey Mr Glass. You might want to try asking your question over at www.legacygt.com since that site is made for that year car.

That sounds very strange, I would think the battery is shot, but there's no reason for it to start up right after when nothing has changed. Mine starts up everytime even at 15 below zero.

Unhappy Same Problem - Please help!

I know this is reviving an older thread, but my problem is very similar & I could really use some help!

1999 Legacy Outback SUS, 2.5L Twin Cam
115k miles
New Battery

When the temps are cold, this car (sometimes) will not start. Battery is good & strong - all the lights work & are bright, etc. When you turn the key, you'll hear a click, or possibly nothing. After a while or a few tries, the car will start.

This never happens when the car is warm, or the temperature is above freezing.

Anyone have any ideas?

check the battery cables. if you have a ton of gunk on your terminals it can travel up the cable and kill your power. i just had this happen in my 92. starts fine when its warm outside, but if its cold, forget about it. turned out it was a bad positive battery cable. plus its an easy check at like $10.

spdracr00, thanks - I'll do that. I replaced the factory battery a few months ago (this car is a '99), but I did not replace any cables. I've also heard that these cars have poor grounds - any truth to that?

yeah do a search for "grounding mod" and you'll see a ton of stuff about that. it will help smooth out your idle and might help with the starting issue, but who knows, it helps each car in different ways, but its worth it.
