Your NASIOC Administrator Synergy, what the heck is it!

NASIOC Synergy Forum

We've decided to try a new forum modification called Synergy. The idea is to submit good threads to the system so that people on other communities like ours can read them. Once a thread is mirrored to other forums, then people across the internet vote on which they feel are best. The best threads get to the front page which causes them to be read by even more people. If you author a lot of good threads, you might become well known across forums as a "Top Author".

If you read a thread you like on Synergy, simply click on the vote link next to it. Vote totals are tallied across all forums and updated about once a minute. Keep in mind that threads aren't always ordered by votes because the Synergy algorithm takes a lot of factors into account when ranking a thread. But votes are very important, so vote!

There are a variety of thread categories that cover pretty much everything you might be interested in.

If there are categories you're NOT interested in, simply select the options link as shown below.

After selecting the options link, you'll be taken to the screen shown below. Unchecking boxes next to categories you're not interested in will stop them from showing. If you aren't interested in threads from other forums, you can hide them with a single click.

If you author a thread that gets to the front page of Synergy, then you get one point. The top authors of threads from around the internet are listed as seen below. Create great threads and become well known!

By default, Synergy shows you the most popular threads. At the top, you can change the sorting options so that you see the newest submitted threads to the system.

If you find a thread on our forum you think would be good to add to Synergy, simple click on the in the postbit, under the username near the report post icon, of the first post in the thread. That will take you to a submission screen where you write a short description. Once you submit that, it will go into a moderation queue for us to approve (or deny). Your help finding the best threads to submit is appreciated! Let's show the rest of the internet how good our community is.

Enjoy!

Neat idea...is this nasioc specific or are we going to be reading threads from scoobymods.com, clubwrx.net etc...and vice versa? Does this address people posting links in threads to other messageboards?

Imagine...soon, there will only be one giant all encompassing message board...the mother of all message boards...your one stop shop for everything you could possibly want to bitch about. It is amazing how information is divided and sub divided only to be reconglomerated again. 10 dimensions.

I saw a "Buyers Checklist" on the Honda Ridgeline site that was very good. It targets buyers who have a bit of a drive to a dealer and want to make sure that they don't have to turn right around and go back, actually it looks like many of their dealers have adopted the check list themselves to make sure they service their buyers well. I modified it and took it with me when I just purchased my Baja. This might be a good thing to offer to Sube buyers ????

My personal thoughts, Nasioc is getting to "main stream" too many gimmicks. I think it takes away from the sites appeal. Seems like its the gimmick of the month site. I just ignore it. But thought I might give a honest thought out there.

IMHO I think Nick is just trying to provide content options for people who might be interested. If nobody's interested, it'll go away, but if people are interested it will be incorporated into NASIOC. I also ignore certain forums and features on NASIOC, but I'm pleased that Nick goes to the effort to present them. That way I have a choice about which features to use. I think that it would get kinda boreing if nothing ever changed and new technologies weren't brought to our attention...

Rocket's two cents...

I'm still looking for a pure 2.5rs site that has more than 2 people on it...

seems like this will pull us further and further into mainstream morons who drive fart machine and think modifying thier cars means to make it stand out more than the hot pink civic with a wing taller than my house...

what others sites are going to see us ???

This is a North America Subaru Impresa Owners Club where the focus is on Subaru vehicles. I'm not sure I see the connection or a good reason to do this. There are too many sites now that have no focus. JMO

Pretty cool idea. I'm not sure yet if the notoriety is necessary, or even a good thing as of yet. A benefit would be knowing that you're likely getting a good read when its been identified that a certain musing was compiled by one of the "Top Authors", but I feel it may also compell some unnecessary attempts at self promotion on the down-side of the house.

Something tells me Unabomber is preparing his Emmy acceptance speech, just about now.
