Default bought 06 sti end of year, any extra maintenance?

I picked up my 06 at the end of November. She's about ready for her first oil change.

I believe this STI is actually one of the first units of the year, so it was sitting on the lot for several months before I bought it, possibly an entire year.

I'll be taking her to the dealer for the oil change and also to get a rattle from the back checked out (I can't tell if it is the rear seat, the seatbelt slots, or the hose for the IC water spray). Does anybody have any recommendations for other stuff I should ask them to look at, given that the car was a lot-queen for about a year? I'm wondering if I should have them check or just change the diff oil, or something like that.

Read the Maintenance FAQ at the top of this forum. Read it many times until you understand it all. Then ask yourself the questions you asked above. There is no "checking" of diff oil, it's change or don't change.

Thanks for pointing out the FAQ. Yes, I have read that many times, and re-checked it before posting. Since it did not anwer my question, I posted. Nobody has an answer for me, but that's life.

My owner's manual has a description of the diff oil check procedure.

nobody answered because the answer was more or less nothing special. the car obviously didn't stay parked for a year straight, so you don't have to worry about that. change the oil, and follow the schedule.

The manual may say check, but if you have done diff maintenance, you'd know you cannot "check it". There are two bolts back there, one low one to drain and high higher one to fill. There is no dipstick to check it. So you drain and fill. I suppose you could remove the top one and squirt more fluid in there until it runs all over the place, but that's hardly a check, more of an unnecessary top off as your rear end burns zero fluid.

I hope my response didn't seem too flippant as what's in your owners manual is the gosphel and time is not a means of measure according to the gosphel, but mileage is.

Remove the top drain plug and stick your finger in the hole to check the level. If your finger gets stuck, then that's another problem.
