Default Test Pipe

How would a test pipe replacing my catalyctic converters affect performance on mt 2002 2.5 RS?

Im interested in following this thread to see if anyone knows I took out my secondary cat yesturday and replaced it with a welded piece of pipe.

I almost think the cars feels like it lost some pull but i also have been playing a bit with nitrous that i just installed so now the car always feels slow lol.

Im headed to the dragway this week though and can get a baseline time to compare to last years with the cat and will let you know. i havea MY98

Well, this is how I want my exhaust set up if it will actually help performance rather than hinder it. Header-Test Pipe-Stromung Midpipe-2.25in muffler replacement pipe.

Will see what happens and post about it

NA cars like back pressure, well to an extent anyway.

you probably will see more of a loss by removing the muffler then by having it on.

It would probably be best to just get high flow cats and mufflers then remove them all.

By putting on a 2.5 in cat back on my car I noticed it was slightly more hesitant or even slower in low RPMs and the gain wasn't noticed until over 4k RPM when the advanced timing kicks in.

i was thinking i felt a little low end loss but wasnt sure if i would see a top end gain which may or may not make it worth it to me to run it like that at the track. will find out this week for sure i guess

Where can I get a pipe to replace the cats? I have a 1 7/8" pipe to replace the muffler and a stromung midpipe, so Im sure the smaller diameter "unmuffler" provides enough backpressure

to be honest my recommendation would be to walk into a smalltime exhaust / hack shop with cash and you should be all set. Thats what i did lol

i paid 50$ for a cat removal and 90$ for a straight pipe to be made to replace the muffler section (with a tip) total cost 140$ it didnt help lol

I needed more back pressure but damn is it loud when i put it on.

Well, thats basically like my setup, but I have a stromung midpipe connected to a 1 7/8" mufflerless section. Do you think that smaller section would provide enough backpressure without cats?

my setup is in a 98 RS i now have the stock header to one stock cat a 2.25 inch piece of pipe instead of the second stock cat, then the stromung midpipe to a stromung dual tip muffler all 2.25

replace the stromung muffler with the 2.25 pipe and that was the straight system. It was what i thought was a noticable loss of power. It seemed to still have the low end but lost mid and top.

I dont know if that would provide enough backpressure for your car or not. I can just tell you the only thing it did for mine was make it loud as sin. But i drove it around like that for 3 days.

BTW i say it was loud as hell but trust me you cant even imagine i head my friend take off from a friends shop over 3/4's mile away and i distinctly heard 1st 2nd and 3rd gear lol (was a low populated area so not too many large buildigns in the way)

Its now known as my "Fun pipe" For those days that im more bored than others lol

Well,I might look into a universal High flow cat, the random tech is a ****ing ripoff... I wish there was someway to know if running catless would help.
