Default Ford set to receive revised Aston Martin bids

Ford set to receive revised Aston Martin bids

http://today.reuters.com/news/articl...MARTIN-BID.XML

Quote:
Ford Motor Co. is expected on Wednesday to receive revised offers for its Aston Martin luxury sports car unit, which it hopes to sell from more than 450 million pounds ($884.1 million), the Financial Times said.

The second-round bidders were thought to include Syrian-born property tycoon Simon Halabi and British private equity group Doughty Hanson & Co, the newspaper reported.

Magna, the Canadian auto-parts maker, and a consortium including Australian media executive James Packer could also lodge offers, according to the FT.

"If there is a cluster (of bids around the same price) it may go to a third round," an unnamed person close to Ford was quoted in the newspaper as saying." A deal could be agreed sooner "if someone is way out in front," he said.

A second person was cited by the FT as saying Ford hoped to fetch more than 450 million pounds with the sale.

"People have increased their bid prices in the process rather than reduced them," he said.

A comment was not immediately available from Aston Martin, Halabi or Doughty Hanson.

Ford Chief Executive Alan Mulally said earlier in January the company would decide this year of the sale of Austin Martin.

I hope A-M gets a good home. While the rest of FoMoCo might be crumbling, A-M has actually done well under Ford management. Their cars are simply too gorgeous to let them get sold to someone not worthy.

Any bets as to who might be the new owner??

Couldn't Bill Gates or many others just right a check for 1 billion? Fantastically beautiful cars. I think I'd take one over a Lambo or Ferrari. Not that I'd want bill gates to own it but it seems that it's not that much money for a car company.
