Default blew a tire out

So I blew out one of my winter tires last night driving on the highway - at least I think that's what happened because I didn't even notice it at first

I have no idea how long i was driving on it before i noticed it - the noise eventually made me realize someting was wrong. When i pulled over it really stunk - i'm hoping it was the tire that stunk and not my diff but i'm not sure. I put the donut on and limped home (20 miles ).

What sucks now is that i had viking snowtechs on and they are sold out for the sseason - ntb told me they are not allowed to replace less than 4 tires on a full-time awd vehicle.. does this mean i have to buy a whole new set of tires?? They are not very old (this is the 2nd season i've had them and i didn't drive m car for a full month the first season).

ANy suggestions? What are the chances that my diff is toasted and how can i find out?

Default

well i did find a viking snow tech so it looks like i can just replace the one tire - the tires are fairly new so I don't think diameter difference is going to be an issue although i'm making sure to double check it...

How can I determine if my diff is toasted? The tire that blew out was the driver side rear tire - i still can't believe i didn't notice it until the nosie from the rim alerted me to it... there was a bit of a low "moan" on the way back with the donut on - i figured it might be the donut making noise but i'm not sure.
