Default Oil questions and help please

I have a problem ....I had my oil changed at one those oil change places that specialize in mobile 1 oil. Now I have done this before and have had no problems. Now all of a sudden I have an oil leak ........I have gone back to the place twice and they tell me that nothing is leaking but I see the oil! they then proceeded to tell me that maybe I am burning the synthetic oil. I have never heard of that before. Has anyone else heard of this if so please tell me. I just think that they are incompetent and don't want to admit it. When I checked my oil I was a quart or so short. I just changed the oil a month ago and my car only has 27000 miles......please help. THanx
And yes I feel stupid.

Are you seeing a leak or noting any smells of burning oil? maybe they gave you a defective oil filter or double gasket on the drain plug?

Burning oil is quite common - in fact especially so with the 5W30 Mobil 1 synthetic.

Where are you seeing the leak? Can you trace it?

First taking your car to a quick lube place, I wont beat you up but man DIY or ask a buddy.
Most quick lube place lose the crush washer or reuse this $.04 washer. Also as mentioned above they could have accidently used a double oil filter seal, however usually doing this will result in a very sudden loss of all fluid.
I bet on the crush washer.

turboed cars tend to "consume" more oil than naturally aspirated vehicles. alo, in my experience, subarus seem to cosume a bit more mobile 1 than other brands, i recommend royal purple.
you said you lost 1 qt in a month, but how many miles did you put on it in that time?

true true with all it could be the oil pan gasket. alot of the time the gaskets on the subaru's need to be changed if the car is turboed when the car gets hot what else gets hot the oil duhhhh where does the oil go when the car was just running to the pan and when it's hot and the oil sits it screws the gasket up, and it could be the washer but when your driving and you get pissed u tend to beat the hell out of the car and don't lie but mobl. 1 i had alot of oil loose so i switched it to royal. if it doesn't work try a thicker oil like 10w30 alot of turbo cars do it.

Probably the crush washer or the filter gasket. Could be as simple as a loose filter or they may have accidently left the old filter gasket on when putting on the new filter. You might have two gaskets on there.

It could be anything mentioned here... i have something to add though... An X-Subaru mechanic once told me that useing synthetic oil in a sube isn't that great of an idea... He noted may times pulling the heads off subars with 30k on them (older head gasket issues) and still being able to see the hash marks in the cylinders from initial machineing... The use of synt early in the cars life doesn't allow proper break-in as he noted.

He said to me as long as you are changing your oil regulary there was no reasion to use synth, and was not really a good idea because it doesn't "coushion" parts the same as dino-oil.

I don't know it made sense to me at the time. Just my .02$

Also, i know your car is much newer than mine, but i had to have the threaded bung in my oil pan welded as it started to leak at the spot welds from the oil change process...and flexing the bung in the pan...

I agree to a point, but dino oil is recommended for the break in period anyway, so i don't see how that situation could have been caused by synthetic oil used later on.

just my 2 100ths of a dollar
