Default Gold Prodrive P1's with flaking clearcoat!?

Hey all,

I've had my Prodrive P1's for about 3 years now. I started noticing about a year ago that the clear coat was flaking off in a few small places. Now it is flaking off all over the spokes and around the rim itself. It is really frustrating!

ANyone else have this happen? I take really good care of them and make sure no solvents or tire shine products touch them. I can post pics a a latter time to show the damage.

So with the finish of the wheels coming to an end I'm thinking of getting them painted Gloss Black, Black or Gun Metal. My car is black. Any suggestions?

Im running 215/45/17 Falken 512's. They are great! Way better than the Yoko EVS 100's. Better tread ware and really quite.

I painted my P1's bronze like 2yrs ago and they are looking fine, I painted them because the anthracite color was really dull with wheel cleaner usage. But it is common fo it to fade, the chipping...that maybe have started by rock chip etc. a little wet sanding with 1500-2000 grit paper or a scotch brite pad (red or grey) if possible. Then 2 or 3 coats of clear coat enev the aerosol stuff will make a BIG difference!

In 3+ years of ownership I haven't had any issues with my Gold P1 finish. I've had some chips from rocks, but no flaking or peeling.

I'm running 225/45 tires on them, but at that size you have to make sure that tires have strong side walls for good handling.

Good option. I'll take stop by the paint shop in the next few days too to get a quote. I may try the DIY thing if its too much at the shop.

Thanks all

I was so close to buying a set of used wheels for 750 yesterday. I passed though. I think I can find a better deal on used P1s and I decided to change my timing belt instead. Sigh

To keep from hijacking this thread anymore , I haven't had any flaking problems. I've had the wheels since March 2004. They did spend late May 2006 (after I trashed my previous set of S-03 Pole Positions) to last Wednesday (01/21/2007) in my backyard though while I used stock 2006 wheels and tires.

:bump:

The clearcoat on one of my wheels is flaking and coming off now. :P I don't know if it's due to old age/wear and tear or if it's due to not washing the car/wheels often.
