Default 16 or 18's for auto-x

Ok, so at the end of the summer last year I wrecked my car at the auto-x (slid into curb and got stopped by a tree). I was rinning on 18" wheels with R compounds. I broke 2 of my wheels with the curb. I have spent all my money on replacing my coilovers, rear lateral links and getting the body work done. I wanted to buy new 17" wheels and new hoosiers or something, but I can't afford it. I still have my stock wheels somewhere hidden in the shop. I was wandering if they would work ok, or if I should just replace the 2 18" wheels I broke?

Ouch!!!!

Your stock wheels are very narrow- 6.5", that really limits what would work well as far as tire width.

What kind of shape are the 18" tires in? If they are still in good shape, replacing the broken wheels might be cheaper. Replacing the broken wheels even if not cheaper will be more competitive (assuming you are running a wide-ish tire). It will also let you sell your wheels down the road if you decide to much easier- tough to sell two wheels.

Thats good info, I had no idea the dimensions of the stock wheels. I haven't even seen them since I replaced them the day after I bought the car. The wheels I have (2 of ) are 18x8 w/ 48mm offset. Normal rota's. I want 245 40 18's, but don't know if that's too wide. Thinking I might have to settle for 235. Anyone know?

245/40 will fit fine on a 8" rim (it's on the narrow end of acceptable widths, but will work)- it's a little tall however- the 235/40 will be a tad shorter (and not much narrowier)- R compounds tend to run a little wide anyways

Hoosiers run wide- the 225's should be perfect
