Default Can a piece of paper/object fall into the heater fan? 05 Legacy

My mom just took her 05 Legacy into the dealership because whenever she turns the fan on for hot/cold air she hears an odd sound like putting a straw in fan blades. Normally I would have looked at it for her, but she's under warranty. Now the dealership told her it could have been something that fell from the glovebox or somewhere else and if it is, she will have to pay because it is her fault. I told her to get the car back and either take it to a better dealer or I'll take it apart for her. Please let me know if that's possible and if they should cover it.

I doubt anything can fall from the glove box into the heater fan. However you could have sucked something into the heater fan like leaves or something like that. The only way to know is to take it apart. Warranty will not pay if the fan has paper, leaves or what ever in it. If its a fault of the fan itself then yes that would be covered.

Sounds like a fan baring went. Sorta like an old Computer sputters when you turn it off (maybe you wont know about that, ud have to be a computer geek to grasp that one).

Eitherway it does sound like it would be covered under the original or extended waranty. Hopefully she has one.

It is possible (I've seen it) for paper to be sucked up into the fan. The air intake is on the pass side floor. If a light piece of paper (like a wrapper) is on the floor, it can be sucked up into the fan. It would sound a little lighter than a card in a bicycle spoke. That would not be covered under warranty.

IF there is a problem with the fan, then yes, it would be covered under warranty. The only way to find out is to take it apart. Once apart, if it is found that it IS a piece of paper, who pays for it then?

I took my Outback Sport in for this once after it had been sitting for a couple of weeks, the fan was full of peanuts. Some animal used my fan cage as a storage unit

I brought my 2001 2.5RS in to my dealer and there was those little "noses" in there from a tree or whatever. That was causing my noise.
