Default $820 for the 30k service

Wow. The dealer in Southfield MI (where I bought the car) wanted $820 to change the fluids, rotate the tires, and inspect the hoses.

I call up the dealer where I wanted (and tried!) to buy my car from in Ferndale and they quote me $450. Still an ass load of money, but amazing the difference!

I made the appointment, but I'm wondering if a local service place would do just as well - probably for much cheaper.

$450 for that service is an insult, $820? Ugh. To give you an idea of how wrong that is, my wife's Forester is going in this week (at a dealer) for the 90K for $300.

Does that price come with complimentary lube? Seriously, I think the two I've had done were $400 or so.

Wow. DIY with all synthetic stuff sets me back ~$150

Maybe I should just start doing that day in and day out. I could even make house calls ....

So it basically means you're paying $820 for oil change, transmission oil and rear end? Does that include coolant change?

The $820 does include the coolant, but it should also include a reach-around.

I downloaded the list of items required for the service, and I'm either going to do it myself or take it somewhere (thanks TF!) for coolant replacement and other items.

that's insane. all you really need is an oil change, tranny / diff fluid, and air filter.
