I need help in deciding between a 17 or 18 inch tire. is there any advavtage of an 18 inch other than looks and maybe a wider tire or if going to a big brake kit? i was lokking at the rota p45 mainly for looks and they only come in 18s. i would also have to get an 18 inch spare also. i will mainly be doing daily driving some strip and maybe get into road courses down the road. after reading posts on brakes ive decided not to go with a big brake kit but instead just get a good set of rotos and pads, steel brake lines and a good set of tires which should increase my stopping. can anyone shed some light on this post for me. shed some light in helping me choose the right size tire?

You can fit just as wide a tire on a comparable 18 as a 17. I don't rock 18s because I buy tires every year and 18" tires cost more. Simple as that, for me at least.

Ok, so as to your question, a stock STI runs 225/45r17's going to a 245/40r17 will keep your speedometer in check and increase (with proper tires) your traction both straight line stopping and lateral. as for the upgrading of wheels see if the enkie rpf-1's suit your taste they are lighter than stock and clear the brakes.
Hope this helps Dan |
