Quote:
Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI) will exhibit the “Boxer Turbo Diesel” engine and the Subaru R1e electric vehicle at the 77th Geneva International Motor Show. At present, ten units of the Subaru R1e electric vehicle are used for daily business operations by TheTokyo Electric Power Company, Incorporated (TEPCO), Subaru’s joint development partner, for road-testing with an eye to a market debut down the road. FHI intends to commercialize the Subaru R1e as a short-distance commuter car based on the Subaru R1 mini-vehicle currently available in the Japanese market. A TEPCO-developed high-speed charger that will charge 80% in no more than 15 minutes will be also showcased.

Other vehicles to be exhibited (models marked with * will be available only on public open days)

Subaru Impreza WRC 2007 prototype (reference vehicle)
B9 Tribeca (5+2 passengers, 5 passengers)
Outback (3.0R, 2.5i*)
Legacy (Sedan 3.0R, Wagon 3.0R, Wagon 3.0R*, Wagon 2.0R*)
Forester (2.5 XT and 2.0 X*)
Impreza (Sedan WRX STI, Wagon 2.0R*, Wagon 1.5R*)

R2's nose doesn't look that way anymore. Who knows if this bodystyle will even exist when this finally reaches market. I expect the Stella body will be what will eventually house this technology. Here's the current R2 nose, by the way. Not very elephantine:

I guess if I had to have something out of that class of car, that would probably be it.

Electric Subaru to charge into UK
Could Subaru be going green?

That looks a distinct possibility, after the Japanese company took the wraps off its R1e electric city car at this month’s Geneva Motor Show. It was well received at the Swiss expo, and it’s possible that the award-winning machine could find its way on to British roads in the future.

A spokesman for Subaru told Auto Express: “We’re looking at bringing the R1e to the UK. At the moment we are carrying out a detailed evaluation to see if it’s possible.”

If the project gets the thumbs-up, the two-door city runabout could hit British streets within 12 months. The clever little 2+2 has a 50-mile range and manages a top speed of 62mph. It comes with a high-speed charger which allows the advanced on-board lithium-ion battery to be 80 per cent recharged in only 15 minutes.

Low-volume sales of the car would be targeted at urban areas, and as it’s a zero emissions vehicle, the R1e would be exempt from city congestion charges. The model picked up a prestigious environmental award in Japan earlier this year, and has been developed in conjunction with the Tokyo Electric Power Company.

The R1e will be built in Japan in right-hand-drive form only, and there is no possibility of any left-hookers being produced. That means mainland Europe will miss out on the green machine, but greatly increases the chances of it coming to Britain.

It looks like they are going to market the Tribeca as a 5 and a 5+2 passanger. Just like every automaker does with small back seats. It is never a 4 seater, it's a 2+2.

I think the R1e looks fine, give me a 4 door

Peace,

Greg

Yeah, just imagine it with a body kit, low-profile tires, and a supercharger. The ultimate commuter vehicle!
