Default Electric tailgate locks. Anyone done this?

Okay, I found two websites selling aftermarket electric tailgate locks for trucks. Problem is, they don't list subaru's, so I'm wondering if anyone has any idea which tail gate out there our bajas are closest too.

Here's the links if anyone is interested:

http://www.usatruck.net/store/mall/dyno.php

http://www.accessconnect.com/power_tailgate_lock.htm

With a lock on the tail gate and my bed cover I can make the back area totally secure, which is why I'm looking into this.

Okay, I got responses from both companies, they don't make one for the Baja (no surprise) and they apparently don't know which of the ones they sell would be a close fit. I think I may have to go to a u-pullit and check all the gates on the trucks they do sell for and see which is closest.

In order to lock it, once I have a locking tailgate I'll simple fasten a bolt to the cover that sticks out about an inch from the underside, and drill a matching hole in the tail gate to engage it. Should be fairly simple.

This is a cool thing.

So, what is compatibility dependant upon? The latches? The width of the tail gate?

Have you sent the manufacturer a picture of the Subaru latches to compare with what they are familiar with?

Just wondering.

I have a thought. That said I don't have a plan.

My wife's 98 Outback has a lever to release the door for the gas cap. I just took a quick look at it and it appears the lever is attached to a cable. I assume the cable is attached to a lever on the gas door. Could something be configured using this type of idea? If so, parts should be easy to come by at a junk yard.

Sorry I don't have a plan on this..... I usually think up ideas and then spend a lot of time thinking through the details. This idea just hit about 5 minutes ago.

It appears that the compatibilty is based on the plate to which the release lever on the tailgate is attached. I really need to look at mine then go to a junkyard and look at some others. What would be nice is if I could pull one out of another model Subie with a hatch back. Then I could just plug it all in. But that's based on the premise that they used the same hardware across several model lines.

I've been busy with other projects, I think I'll see about getting back on this one in a few days however.
