It's good to see your paint is OK. I wonder if I have a little sticker like that on my car?

woah!!! I didn't know you could COBB a '99!
I was looking and noticed that it looked different, and then i saw the MAF! awesome... Unfortunatly, the cops around here like to pull you over and tell you to pop your hood, so CAI isn't something i want a ticket for...... But man, if i had a better job and could afford getting the occasional fix it ticket, i'd do that! -Gagan |

Why would a CAI earn you a fix-it ticket? I've never even heard of that before.

because CA has all these strict (read: wack) emissions laws. if you can't prove that a mod you've made to your car is CARB certified, then you get a ticket, or something to that effect...CA people are probably more qualified to answer this than me, but that's the basic idea...

He bought the PRM racing filter from me for $139.95 + S&H and the MAF adapter for $35.95 + S&H.
I don't know where he bought the intake pipe, but a few people have done this with the Weapon-R and Rallispec intake tubes. Larry www.ImprezaRS.com |

Heres the breakdown!
1) CA does have strict laws against modifications of ANY kind... with intake, the airbox must be stock... but COP in my area are import haters (just ask Brucelee!) and they will give you ticket for whatever they can! 2) I shall repeat that the cops around here suck ass! :monkey: 'Freak'mont and Union City police depts!! so, cop see's me legally driving the down the street, notices the my muffler tip isn't stock, pulls me over... checks out the car and find modified exhuast... "pop you're hood", and he looks inside, see's an intake, i get that ticket also... clear coners, yep.... clear side markers, yep... strut bar, yep... different color hoses!?! I wouldn't doubt that the money hungry police of fremont would give me a ticket for that... You guys are soooo lucky!! -Gagan |

I don't get it California is still a Democracy isn't it? With the amount of people I see complaining about all the problems in Cali how come nobody votes and takes care of it? If the people that grumbled about their rediculous rules were as loud and organized as the radical tree-huggers that got the laws in place then they would be gone!
Go Vote, Go Campaign, Then change the laws! BTW I have nothing against Conservation legislation or just left of center tree-huggers, it's the crazed hippies that wqant us to all ride bikes that bug me. |

the laws are bad, the enforcement is worse... that's how it goes most of the time...
though a new exhaust law has been made and whereas before it was unclear and quite a bit more open to interpretation (read: cops could give you tickets easier) it is now more clean and clear (less tickets). still though, how does a new intake hurt anyone? (the noise will make you go deaf?) personally, my intake isn't noticeable at all unless you get aggressive with the gas at which point you might be in a situation where cops could (depending) pull you over for other reasons and so i don't see the point, especially since CARB stands for California Air Resources Board (or some such) and the exemption is for pollution purposes of which the intake has no protection against (save for the venting of gases back into the intake stream, which is preserved on all the intakes i've seen)PS: none of the domestic guys i talk to have ever been pulled over for being loud or anything like that... kinda makes you wonder |

The answers (part 1)
Strut bar is Cusco (although it's dirty). Larry got the basic prices... Got the piping from JCWhitney for around $45.00 shipped for the 180 degree bend and 90 degree for the fender portion. Hose for connection was got locally, it is high quality federal hose, not cheap and can't be bought in small portions (have extra if you want to buy some). The protion used for this is probablly $15.00. vacumn hose was $6-7. Hose clamps were $6-7 or so. The only 'bend over' item was the filter, but it's worth it as I notice minimal low end loss. Sound quality is nice too. Not as loud like the open element ones in the engine bay pulling in hot air. Any other questions feel free. |
