Need help with my GL 10 Tranny woes!

My GF called me tonight saying the old wagon did not want to move forward very well. She got to her parents place near by and according to her there is no oil on the tranny dipstick ( it's a auto tranny ) They pushed it back and found a puddle of red fluid under the car.

1) what kind or type of auto tranny fluid does this car take ( 87 gl 10 wagon)

2) if the fluid is leaking out what could have popped

I am 3 hours away form her so I cannot see the car for myself to assess it. Any help would be appreciated.

if there's a puddle I'd say most likely a cooler line broke (it's just rubber hose) so replace that and fill it with fluid should be fine

First of all there are 2 dipsticks on the EA82 auto trannys. The front of if I recall is the front diff oil... it uses 80W90 or just straight 90 weight. I forget which. Consult your manual.

The back one is your ATF... and its red.... I believe it takes dextron 3. Should be the same ATF you run in your power steering. (yes you run ATF in your power steering, NOT power steering fluid)
