Question When do we get to have a thread where we can talk about WBM 2007?

Given that seemingly every time anyone asks a question or even mentions it, the thread gets locked, and all the responses to the announcement thread were cut and that thread was locked-

Are we allowed to have a thread where we can talk about WBM 2007

Or do we have to wait for an "official" sticky thread for discussion and commentary?

Good question. Apparently there are mixed signals going on. I thought the sticky thread was supposed to be for discussion purposes. I guess not. Well, direct all inquiries to REDrum or y2kthug. I'm staying out of it.

Doesn't matter to me. It could be this one, or a mod could make an official thread. People are excited, people want to talk, people want to comment. If we need to keep the announcement thread clean, fine. But please open up an appropriate discussion thread.

Annnnyyywayyy, as I commented in that thread:

Thumbs up on the venue selection. I think Wachusett is an excellent choice.

It was a good idea to keep the announcement thread clean, so people don't have to sift through a bunch of crap.

This thread should nicely. So 5 months... whadya think, 1000 replies?

kudos on location, I just hope we have a Wikkid Big Photo at the Wikkid Big Meet!!

We know everyone is excited, but unfortunately, NESIC's ability to ask questions and hatch ideas far exceeds the WBM team's ability to answer and address them right now.

NESC, Inc will roll-out information event elements, features, seminars, costs, vendors, volunteering, and other such all in good time.

People are free to discuss/post whatever they wish, but the event goals and elements are 95% set already, (based on feedback from the attendee survey last fall). But a 'mod' dunk-tank is still up in the air...

In a couple months we'll open up the sticky, but for now (and for the WBM team's sanity) it will remain locked.

WBM has developed from a few hundred locals hanging out into a major production and business undertaking, and with it comes entropy...

For 2007 consideration of ~22 new potential sites, field trips to 11 venues, and detailed budget estimating for 8 has kept the team very busy the past 4 months. Now that site selection is complete the team is scrambling to catch up on coordinating what needs to be done over the next 4 months and what resources are needed to do it.

Sorry to be onerous, but group (mob) consensus building and decision making on a forum is a great way to kill ideas and efforts.

WBM 2007 will be a fantastic event, but please be patient.

Okay, so now we know where and when the meet is being held, we can feel free to use this thread to bitch about what a lousy date they picked to hold the meet, and how Y2Kthug's back yard would have been a much better venue location than Wahhhh choose it ?

I am not sure that this thread serves much of a useful purpose other than to serve as a lightning rod for the malcontents to whine and beatch on their own personal soap box. At least now they have a specific place for doing it, instead of inserting their personal digs in other unrelated threads.

It'd be pretty awful if we ended up getting less than 1000 people because of Father's Day. I mean, I know I'm going, because I'm not a father. Hell, I might drag my dad with me, he used to be a petrolhead. Even owned an Alfa.

I'm a father(twice over) and I'm on the planning committee, so no one else has any right to bitch about it being on Father's Day.

Agreed, +1.

If I had to choose over Subaru Day at NED vs. WBM, Sorry NESIC, but most definitely Subaru Day, like every year. Whose idea was it to plan it on this day anyways?

Why don't we just have both events at NED. That way people can get an all in one package.

Well, I didnt notice either of you volunteering to be on the planning committee. So I'm 100% positive you dont realize just how many other events we had to plan around. Of all those other events, the NED day is by far the smallest.

I am (well sort of past tense since I haven't been able to make a meeting in like months) part of the planning committee. The committee had to deal with the dates available at the site that was selected. Unfortunately it is hard to please everyone, and planning the event date around everything else going on, and expecting the site to "fit it in" when we want it is a pipe dream. There were many limitations, and the committee did the best to work around them all.
