Default Loud screeching/metal grinding noise from passenger rear wheel!

so I notice today while commuting to work i hear a noise from the passenger side of my car. as traffic slowed down the noise became more prominent. i rolled my side windows down and i can hear this loud screeching noise. when traffic comes to a crawl i hear grinding noises like from metal to metal contact. it would go SQUEAK, grind grind, SQUEAK. after about 10 miles of this it went away. anybody know what the problem can be?

i dont think its the brakes because it's only audible when you are moving. coming from a dead stop the noises would progress faster as you move. my foot was off the brakes and using it also didn't do anything to the sound.

My car did something similar only made a noise once in a while and not always when braking. usually when tunring or something. It was the rear inner brake bad was gone and just the backing plate was left.

Oh yeah I also had a problem after this on one of the rear rotors I put on. The little lip off the back of the rotor was rubbing on the dust shield. It only made the noise when I turned one direction and then it would make the noise at ramdom. A few wacks with a hammer to the dust shield and no problem. The rotors must have been slightly different then stock.

i had a noise which was not metal though. It was a black piece of weatherstripping in the underside of the rear wheel well. Once, it came lose and hung down so the tire would scrape against it as it rolled.
it doesnt sound quite like your issue though, sorry

a did a little more searching and found out that some ppl reported rocks getting stuck somewhere in their brakes which led to the noises. Im hoping its just a rock that caused it to make that horrible grinding noise. will see if it makes anymore noises

Pretty common. Take rear calipers off, inspect, shake chit loose, reinstall. Usually works 90% of the time. Otherwise sitcky caliper...
