Colin didnt hit any spectators...
McCrash simply was going too fast and rolled end over end...
several times, all to the obvious distaste of his co driver.

He cost them the World Championship by pushing too hard, too soon...

he was going waaaaay too fast for that section IMHO...
tough gamble... & super tough price to pay for a boo boo like that...

Carlos Sainz (Ford) was unfortunately the driver who went off course and hit 13 specators....
nobody was seriously injured
2 stages were cancelled
and Ford withdrew from the Rally of GB completely.

I've yet to see any footage including BBC, Eurosport/Speedvision - WRC footage. Unknown if we ever will.... I am sure we- the fans - wont see anything until the FIA clears up it's investigation, if at all.

Wow, I heard (wrong obviously) 2 people were killed. I'm glad to hear that's not true.

Right, sounds like you're thinking of Sainz' incident. The only thing that EuroSport showed of that (I watched all of it) was a foggy bit of amateur video that revealed very little (shot from behind the point that he entered the turn). No in-car footage or anything from nearby.

Is it just me or does Sainz just have all the bad luck?
Hasn't he had a few run ins with spectators? I know for sure there was a Sheep incident. Any one remember any others?

Well, the sheeps didn't pay to spectate the forest stages so Carlos just decided to teach them a lesson.

Sainz hit a sheep HARD last year or 99.... cant remember...

Makinen hit a cow in '97 and dropped off a 100 km cliff. that was ugly.

I have the video... from about '95/'96 where someone (possibly McRae) crashes an early model Impreza into a crowd of spectators. People go flying into the air. The car appears to be based on an STi v3 or v4. It has the 2.5RS style rear wing.

The file is about 1.6MB, but I have nowhere to host it. Feel free to contact me via email or IM.

By the way, spreading this sort of video around is not very positive for Rally as a sport. If you're really interested in seeing it, let me know but let's not broadcast it to the web.

Here's where they destroy a telephone pole and begin to mow down spectators. I'm going to stop here because I think we all get the picture. Those of you who need to see the gory details can IM me... JPorter900.

In '98 McCrash "nudged" a spectator who was carrying precious cargo (ie: beer can in hand), the poor dude was crossing the live stage, McCrash hit mostly the guys leg sending him spiraling head over heels. Mc was going full blast too!

That's not a WRC event Jason, it was held in eastern Europe, a club rally with poor crowd control and the video was hosted on some piece of crap web site that specialises in footage of people being killed. Not very nice. Why would you want to watch people die?

Colin was fined for hitting a spectator in the service area when he was rushing to the exit after service took longer than it should, he didnt want to take a time penalty. He broke the speed limit in the service park and put spectators at danger so deserved the punishment.

From what has been said by eye witnesses on the NetworkQ at Sainz's accident it was a case of Marshalls standing in an unsafe place thinking because they had a yellow tabard on they were invincible.

Aparantly the kids involved were all dressed up as marshalls. sainz locked his wheels on a very slippy downhill section and went into the area designated specifically for overshoots that should be kept empty. He found it full of Marshalls, including children. Carlos did nothing wrong, i really feel for the guy, it's not a nice thing to live with knowing you hurt someone when you didnt intend to.

I still love that look Nicky Grist gives Colin right after they roll. If thats not the "you dumba$$!" look I don't know what is.
