I ended up painting my wheels yesterday. Here is what I did.

1. Washed them off with tire shine to get the main dirt off.
2. Soap and Water inside and out.
3. Sanded with 220, then 800-1000 grit sand paper.
4. Added rubbing alcohol
5. Painted the inside of the wheel black (No Primer or Clear, Just 1 coat black)
6. Flipped it over, added Cards, and Add 1 Nice Main coat of primer.
7. Let it dry, then added another coat of Primer.
8. Added 4 Coats, The coats got lighter after each one.
9. Let it dry for a good hour or two, then mounted them very slowly and carefully and let it on the car overnight.

I only did the back two, and will be finishing the front two today, but here are some pictures, It came out pretty good.
John

Before

Yes, That is the 96 Cent Spray Paint from Wal-Mart LOL

After it was Primered

During the 4 Coats of Black

Final Product

Sorry for the big pictures, I'm a little to lazy to resize them again

I will get pictures of the whole car in the sun today and get close ups of the paint.

^^ Looks good! I used the same Wal-Mart paint for my winter wheels to paint them gold. It was the best gold I found and it was $1 and change here for it so I couldn't complain.

I am going to start repainting my rotas tonight. Got the dismounted yesterday. One has a small chip in the gun metallic so now they are going to semi-gloss black with a red lip. Will post pictures of my process later on.

Nice, that sounds like it will come out good. These are nice and all, but I will need some new tires, and I'm wondering if I should keep them, or if I should get new wheels, thinking of the Rota Torque R's in 17x9 in maybe Hyperblack or Bronze. Hmmmm sounds soo good.

Here are pictures of the whole car:

a dark color such as black or graphite would look good.

Im going to paint some rs 6 spokes pretty soon, just can't decide what color since my car is WRB. Gold always looks good but is way too common.

the only thing that will be left red will be the small flat lip. I will be taping that off tomorrow and spraying the semi-gloss black tomorrow when I know the red is dry. the color you see on the wheel face is the primer.

My wheels owned me last night. Laid the tape over the red for the lip, didn't like one of the tape jobs so I pulled it off and half of the red came with it.
I should have stopped spraying the red when I thought it was coming out too thick but live and learn.

Bringing them to get media blasted today and I will be starting from bare aluminum when I get them back. The will start the really fun part of completely painting the wheels, self-etching primer, red lip, and then full black coating, and face clear coating.

Did you use painter's tape? How long did you wait for the red to dry?

I was using green automotive painters tape. I had painted the red over 24 hours before putting the tape on it in a space kept at 70 degrees the entire time.
