Some more "old school" for you all..

Duplicolor Bronze (3-4 coats)
Duplicolor clear coat (3-4 coats)
Black Mcgaurd lug nuts (something like Mcgaurd...)

They've held up to 2 summers with barely a scratch. Paid $100 for the stockers, which were in pristine condition too, and $25 for paint - not bad

So what happens when you need to move that wheel weight?

A couple of these have the wheel weights painted. How many of you took them off first? just out of curiosity...

I unmounted the tires and took off the weights before I painted mine... got tape weights used when I got the tires remounted... IMO it's the only way to go, as the wheel weight on the outside of the rim is pretty tacky looking...

I'm glad to see this thread has become so useful for some of you.

Remember guys, post the brand and color of paint you used. It's useless to us if you just put up pics of your wheels. The point is to know what the different brands and colors look like.

Keep them coming!

Is primer necessary with Duplicolor wheel paint? I don't want to go overboard if I don't need to. I'll be painting my BBS RK's "graphite" this weekend after a thorough Scotch Brite.

I think if you want the pure color, it wouldn't be a bad idea. I picked up a can of primer for pretty cheap and it only added an extra 30 minutes or so. It's not necessary, but I'd recommend it.

I guess I'll contribute. I was bored over Memorial day weekend and decided to paint my rims.

Supplies:
- 3M pad (not sure of roughness)
- 400 grit sandpaper
- 2 cans rustoleum metallic gold spray paint
- 1 can rustoleum metal clearcoat
- mask (buy one made for painting, not a cheapo one)

Washed and dried rims. Sanded front and back of rims with 3M pad. Sanded front only with 400 grit sandpaper. Wiped down with rubbing alcohol to remove all dust and whatnot. Masked off tires. One light coat on back of rims. Three coats on front of rims. Three coats of clearcoat. I painted the lugs with some black rustoleum I had sitting around.

I let them dry overnight and put them on the next afternoon. For $30 and 7 hours of my time, they came out well enough.

Before I put on the gold color on my wheels I put on a white base and it actually looked pretty nice. I could have left them like that. The only thing is to me it seems ricey if its not a race car or factory car.

Here are some 5 spokes with dupilcolor universal gold. No clear coat yet. The primer was whiteish/grey.
