Got all 4 of the '02 WRX wheels painted for the wife today. Had problems with one, the clear ran badly down to the primer. So tomorrow I've got to sand it down again and repaint. Took me 5 hrs today starting from scratch.

Wife picked out the color. Came from Lowes Hardware, Valspar; Gloss Frosty Berry. It looked Pepto-Bismol until I cleared them. Now they are very pink. Will be a couple months before we mount these, they going to be winter wheels. Hope they look great on a WRB car.

Finished product with test fit:

I waxed them today as well. They slick as glass now. Hopefully the brake dust will just rinse off.

Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating (yes, +5hp :P) ....... 1 can, but plan for one more.

A lot of people I know were not excited to hear that I was using gold paint ... now they all think I should paint my stock wheels gold
Wow, that's a damn good looking wheel when it's not the ugly black/machined finish! Amazing how painting them a solid color completely transforms them.

Thanks, I agree. They took on a whole new look that I wasn't expecting. I'd like to get them on the car, but it's still in the 60's here.

It'll snow soon enough, then I can take some pictures

We rattle canned our aftermarket rims they lasted to yrs before fading and them someone ran my bro off the road and now there Effed Up! But they looked good for a long time. How much is powder coating going for these days?

Now I have to strip these two again, and respray primer/color/clear

Guess I have to bring them inside between coats to keep them warm eventhough the paint specifies 50-90F as a working temp, and it's 60F out...

The clear coat also lightens up the finish color...the non-clear color was much much closer to the cap color pictured above.

When i painted mine i noticed that a couple of clear turn whitish and or wrinkles the paint. I used high temp clear and looked frosty afterwards. and the cheap clear wrinkled mine. Which kind did you use? I dont clear mine any more i just coat the paint on like 5-6 coats. Or ill have my paint guy do it.

^^ Contamination. Probably silicone (armor all). Make sure to clean with wax/grease remover.

Run these as winter wheels, so I decided to spice them up a bit. 3 coats of red plastidip and 1 coat clear plastidip.

I will get better pics when daylight returns

Not my favorite color or design BUT I love your originality and the hard work that you put in to them and for that i think they are great... BRAVO!

Finally got the put on. The weather hasn't exactly gotten bad yet, but I just couldn't stand looking at them sitting on my tool box anymore

BBS Gold

BBS Gold

I think they turned out pretty good. All the haters that didn't like the idea of gold now want me to paint my stock wheels gold.

Plan on getting my stock wheels powdercoated that candy apple red pictured by a few earlier in this thread

Please, I hope you did not paint/powdercoat them. It would be a shame. Unless they were messed up or something.
