Default Most of the times it starts and once in a while it doesn’t start

My car runs and drives for the most part but sometimes when I leave the car overnight on the next morning it doesnít start. When I attempt to start the car it doesnít crank at all. Lights and everything else comes on but it doesnít crank. I hear a humming sound coming from the starter, not sure exactly, but its definitely coming from the engine bay. Another point I noticed is that I sometimes hear a humming sound when I step on the gas, and this is of course when the Ignition is ON (Fuel pump or perhaps starter issue?)

Then I leave the car with a battery charger just in case itís a battery issue for about 15+ mins then it starts right up. (Grounding issue?)
Battery and alternator are new.

I do have one issue that needs to be resolved and that is the replacement of the fuel leveling sensor because the gas gauge doesnít work.

Any ideas what I should check out?

If your car is a manual make sure you have the clutch fully depressed, to activate the clutch safety switch. If it's an auto make sure it's fully in park.
A problem with the clutch or park/neutral switch can prevent the car from cranking.
Also please add your car information to your profile so we know exactly what vehicle you are asking for help with.

I'm having the exact problem.

Most of the time, it would take me 3-4 times to crank up the car or fire up the engine. My problem started recently. I have an 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon with manual transmission. Recently, my car got slightly damaged on the passenger rear fender / quarter panel. I had it fixed at Browns Brother. However, ever since the fix, I realized that my gas level gauge became extremely inaccurate. I ran out of gas one time at half a tank and then it would drop to "E" (empty). When I fill it up, it goes a tad beyond "F" on the level gauge. Anyhow, my car didn't even start today and my gas is very low. I'm guessing that I might have some issues with my fuel pump but i'm not too sure. I am also looking for resources and suggestions for that same problem. I'm planning on bringing my car to Suby Specialties and see if Steve can help me diagnose the problem.

The problem could be that the wires on the battery are not on very tight. I had a problem similer to your with my civic; if I moved the wires on the battery then it would start up right away. I thought that the bolt was a tight as it would go on battery leads but it turned out it had a half turn to go. Problem solved.

well my car is an auto and its a 95 L Impreza, when i start the car its always in park.

the ECU fuse is still good so i dont think its that, but I'm going to try my battery ground wire because that infact is loose... and I guess I'll wait till the next time the car wants to act up.

one more werid thing to add is that i noticed there are a few wires under the driverside panel.. that are loose and not connected, theres a green one and a black one that can connect and a few others that dont connect to each other, for the ones that do the connect (green 1 wire male->green female and one 1 wire black male-> black female start up the fan for some odd reason and i can hear relays on the drive side going on so I'll assume ill leave these unconnected? they seem to be just fine not connected.
