Default Greddy Profec A EBC

With the help of a bunch of guys in the NW forum, I got my Greddy Profec A EBC installed. Keep in mind that this is a preliminary review and not all the features of the unit have been tested.

Greddy has two Profec models offered, the A and B. The A has what they call "Fuzzy Logic" where the unit actually learns the cars boost characteristics and makes boost in what is supposed to optimum to the car.

Where as the Profec B is more of a set and forget unit.

Now I read reports of some people having problems when installing the Profec A in their cars or "they heard in another forum" or whatever... Mainly when searching about this product on this board, it got no favorable reviews.

Well installing it was no different from any other unit and infact I won't go into the details of it... but it's not hard and top of that I was busy getting my gauges installed while danny was installing the Profec for me.

driving
When the unit is first turned on, you have are automagically entered into programming mode. This is where you have to do some WOT 3rd or 4th gear runs to build up max boost. Let me tell you it's not that easy. When topping out 3rd gear your over 100MPH or damn near it!!! That is not good. That run is called the "P1" mode.

Once you get that run in, you have to enter the second phase of tuning and getting the "fuzzy logic" to learn your car. P2 is just a repeat of the first run. From there the unit's display changes to "EE" to let you know your done.

With the unit off you get only 7psi of boost. I think this is a great idea and makes for a good valet switch of some sort. Bury the throttle and the car picks up very linear. No associated "boosted" push in to the seat. Just smooth power, or lack therof.

Now turn the unit on.... Now that is a different story altogether. The car runs so much better than before. I am now getting an harder pulls in first and second gear and boost does not drop off at or near redline, it just keeps pulling.

There are other features like a "over take" mode where you can set a max boost level for a certain period of time. But I didn't get into that part yet as I am still breaking in the basic functions of the unit.

As time passes I will add more info about it.

Okay after doing the P1 and P2 runs the display does go to EE. But when it goes to EE your supposed to drive a few more runs just for the fuzzy logic to make sure or something or learn more. I didn't know that and was already getting worried on speeding so much

Now I took my car out with a friend and his viper well needless to say I didn't have the Profec tuned right or it's not functioning right.... At roughly 120MPH the car surged and spiked and the fuel cut came one and threw a CEL! Nothing serious, just backed off the throttle and went back on it, but again same thing. Well I decided to back off as I had no chance anyways against a viper for crying out loud! It was neat though to be going 120MPH and get spanked. It was almost like I was standing still!

Off to the dyno I go...

Default I have a profec a also

Hey, I've got a profec a also. I like it so far, but all i've done is install it. I havent tuned it yet because i dont have a boost guage to tune the electronice guage on the profec. I think i wired the hot wire wrong also, so ive got to redo that. I wired it to a stereo power wire that is not constant after the key is out of the ignition. i think the memory is dumped everytime i turn the car off because of that. Ill have to wire it to the clock power. write me an email if you can give me any tips on tuning the profec. it would really be a big help to me. thanks.

There is a little stainless steel 3 way joint in the box included with the Profec A.

Periodically, double check by blowing into each hole and verifying that air comes out of the other holes.

I just had mine clog up on me due to the teflon tape rotting or disintergrating in the unit. It clogged it up and made my Profec non functional. Once cleaning it out, things were back to normal.
