Default remote starts on MT (subarus only)

im an installer in the chicago area ive done about 15-20 of them on 5 speeds. I use the viper 550 esp theres no pre set up to do before you get out. you just get out and lock the door as usual. It will not remote start in gear and it will shut down if its put in gear while remote started. I do them for 349.95 plus tax installed and like i said they are the viper 550 esp so thats alarm and remote start. i have one on my car now (wrx wagon) and i had it on both my RS's if you have any questions pm me email me at actionaudio1@aol.com
or call me at

Thats a pretty good price...I got mine installed last week.

Its a great alarm...great range and very reliable

Im curious as to how the car knows its in gear....I just disconnected the clutch switch and if the car is in gear it will take off.

I never leave my car in gear and its not the only car that i've had with a remote starter in a 5-speed

that nutral saftey switch from subaru.. how does it work??

I know there is a company that has one out that uses a recoiler. so when the cable is pulled (moving the shifter to 1st 3rd or 5th) it will not start.. and when the cable is retracted to far (moving shifter to 2nd 4th or reverse) it will not start.

Not to bash or post whore your thread... But I paid roughly $250 for my civic to have that same alarm installed. But then again this is WA and not IL. Thats with the remote start on a 5pd too. oh and power locks and starter kill.

Question

AA I am also a mobile elec tech, and I was wondering how it was that you found a nps wire at the ECU? I have heard rumors about Subaru having one, although I haven't had any confirmation of it. Was the wire that you caught resting at ground or 12v? Or was it in a neutral status untill the car is put in gear? Just curious...

Maybe because it's western Canada, but the going rate for an INSTALLED remote starter here is $79.95 Canadian! Remote Start w/ full alarm runs about $200 of our funny money. With everybody offering the service, competition is fierce. BTW, that's for the same system you speak of. I guess there are benefits of living here.

I'm interested in two things, don't know if you'd be willing to answer... One of them is, the company who i had install my Avantgard 4 refused to install my autostart unit, the most important part with the blackjack and other features he said because of liability, does DEI permit this sort of thing? But on to the real questions, how did you wire the relay through the lcutch switch and to do what? and what pin is the neutral sensor for the wrx? Hopefully with enough info i can convince them to install the rest of the system

--Thanks for any help you can give!

Wop just so you know, there are 2 ways to bypass the clutch switch. 1- Figure out which side of the switch gets applied 12V or ground when the clutch pedal is pressed. Then simply wire in a relay giving the correct wire the pulse that it needs when you want to remote start the car. 2- (This is how I did my last Impreza) Just simply unplug the switch for the correct wires (there will generally be 2, one for the cruise and the other for the clutch) and connect the two wires together. Any other ?'s let me know!
