This is stupid. Like riding a motorcycle is even close to driving a WRC car. I had an old Honda 200s 3-wheeler, where's my test?
Lapworth is on crack!! Here's my favorite line from that article: "On Monday Travis travelled with the team to mid-Wales where he used his vast knowledge of road surfaces and driving techniques to get to grips with rally driving and co-driving, firstly in a Mk2 Escort RS2000 and then a Subaru Group N rally car." ...uhhhh. "vast knowledge of road surfaces and driving techniques..." sure. What the hell. If Travis Pastrana gets to drive one then Tony Hawk should be WRC Champion in 2 years with his vast knowledge of hard road surfaces and driving techniques. He could be SWRT's tarmac expert, like Panizzi is for Peugot. -Dennis |

Oh, you're just jealous
It'd be nice to see an American in the ranks. If he does start, he's gotta get a co-driver with a helluva southern twang to confuse the europeans like they do with all of their co-drivers and their funny accents ![]() If Pastrana does start driving for Subaru, I wanna see some no-handers, supermen, and nick-nacks from the in-car footage ![]() -tim |

Actually, lots of WRC drivers started out on dirt bikes. In fact, both McRae brothers were big into MotoCross. I think Lapworth might know a bit more than us on the subject of WRC.

STi Shawn... I think if you call Prodrive up, you'll be able to drive in the Monte Carlo rally. It sounds like you have all qualifications.
![]() Seriously, SOA could inject some major interest in USA Rallying by sticking Pastrana in a SRT USA WRX for a bunch of SCCA rallies. It's like a "plug-n-play" audience. Next thing you know rallying will be billed as a new X-sport. I heard Rallycross will be an event in Philly next year at the X-Games. ![]() -Dennis |

I think their is a Rally Race of Champions comming up soon. THis is where the best of other sports are pitted against the best of rallying, err something like that.
Anyways I know that two of the best motorcycle road racers will be racing. One of which is phenom Valetino Rossi (500gp world champ). I believe the other is Troy Bayliss. I would be willing to bet Rossi will turn some heads on 4 wheels. One thing bike racing ingrains in your head is smothness. As for Travis, he has a good head on his shoulders and loads of natural talent. |

Well.....both Mcrae and Makinen tested in F1 cars and I highly doubt you see either one in a grand prix anytime soon. It looks like it was just a marketing ploy between a common sponsor to get some extra exposure. If I was an up and coming rally driver I would be annoyed that they wasted a test on some motoxer that wasn't dedicated to the sport....C

I think the US Rally team should stick him in the car if he is fast. This would open up the rally sport to a whole new audience. ESPN, EXPN and the like. Crossover.

two comments ...
i think it would be nice for the US rally team to have a US driver. espically an already famouse one, more fans = good.. any thing that takes fans away from the evil empire (nascar) is good and some one should e-mail those pictures to David Lapworth ... |
