Default 2007 12 hours of Sebring...any of you SE guys going?

Hey guys I was wondering if any of you head down to Sebring in March for the race? Myself and a friend (another subaru owner) are heading down for the weekend from up in NJ to catch the race and were curious if any of you guys go.

Lucky man you are...I would love to hang out there for all the practice and qualifying aside from the race but I am trying to go on as tight of a budgest as possible. I am also hoping to also go to another race in the summer, either USGP or the ALMS race at Lime Rock up by me in CT if possible. Sebring is just going to be like a long weekend type deal. I fly into Orlando on Thursday night at midnight, then relaxing on Friday at my uncles in Merritt Island, FL then race all day Saturday and fly home 8am or so Sunday morning.

Are you camping out there in like a motor home or just staying somewhere nearby? That looks like it would be a blast.

just drop by the dyson tent and ask for stevie d. I'm a tall skinny dude (6'3", 180 lbs), and one of the data guys. There's actually another tall skinny dude, who's not me.

That's me with the lappy...btw.

That's sick that you work for Dyson. I am only going to be there for the race though so I wouldn't want to bother you unless it's still cool. I mean I know you are technically working during then but I chatted with the Audi guys a little bit through the fence last year. It didn't seem to be a big deal. Let me know I will definitely stop by.

I'm heading down there with Travis.

Steve, that looks like a killer job. I'm also a ME, and I'm super jealous.

It's only glamorous in the pictures...I think I did 5 hrs of sleep a night during that test...dinner at 9, sleep at 11, up at 4 or 5, take time getting ready for 6 or 7 departure...back to track in dark, spend all day at track, go back to room in dark, or straight to dinner, eat, back to room, sleep, wake up early, repeat. With sportscar racing, we do it in the cold, the wet, the hot, the dark...I hate rain. I hate cold. Even so, I love what I do.

I can tell you that being in racing is a very very difficult job, and it's certainly not for everyone. The worst in endurance racing is not finishing...in the 11th hour. You work all day and all night to make the car finish, and it just decides to quit with 30 minutes in the race...if you're gonna go out, make sure it's in the first hour...(I'll probably write a book about it someday.) I had a job in racing, gave it all up, got a desk job as an ME/designer/project engineer, got laid off twice in 6 years, said screw that, went back to racing, and will never EVER leave. It really is where I belong, and with the gig I've got, it works out great.

The trick to stopping by is to find the lull in the action. First thing in the morning, or after the last session of the day, or if there's several hours between sessions. Please don't stop in if we've wrecked one, or if there's only 30 mins between sessions, or 10 minutes before the session. you'll get "Hi, nice to meet you, i'm off" and I'll walk away. Be there when we fire it up. That kicks huge ass.

I had an in road for an interview with a very well known race team (not ALMS). An engineer that just left would have recommended me for an interview. I spent time talking to him about his hours, travel, etc. I ended not pursuing it......like an idiot. I would LOVE to get involved.

I will try to swing by and see if I can say hi when things aren't too busy. Sounds like couple hours pre-race might be the best time?

I will be there with a Saturn Redline buddy of mine Wed-Sat. We will have the popup along the fence next to the Viper owners. Beers and Brats!!!! Not bringing the FXT or the Redline though. Pulling the Coleman with the Aztec of my buddy. Drop by for a beer!

Is Irish Mike racing this year in the Subie or did he swap to Benz? Anyone?
