Default Spyshot: 2008 Saab 9-3 Convertible Prototype

Spyshot: 2008 Saab 9-3 Convertible Prototype

http://news.windingroad.com/countrie...ble-prototype/

Quote:
Saab is readying a new schnoz for its 9-3, as evidenced by an earlier wagon prototype carrying a revamped front clip. As shown by these 9-3 Convertible shots, the droptop will also get the new nose, which incorporates a larger grille that lurks somewhere between the company’s celebrated Aero X Concept and the production 9-5. Mercifully, the winter testing mule seen here appears to have a shorter overhang up front than the latter, which now appears to have a wheelbase that’s too short for the vehicle’s overall length.

According to shooter Hans Lehmann, the convertible should arrive in time to mark Saab’s 60-year anniversary this summer (as a 2008 model), but upgrades appear to be mostly cosmetic. In addition to the new grille, the 9-3 Convertible will receive a new hood, bumper covers front and rear, along with new door handles, which are believed to be from the Cadillac BLS. Lehmann also asserts that LED taillamps will be available as an option, though the lens shape itself will not change.

Just in time to celebrate Saabs 60 year anniversary this summer, the 9-3 gets a new face. After having already caught photos of a Saab 9-3 station wagon prototype, here are now new photos showing that also the 9-3 convertible will get the restyling. The current convertible has been on the market since 2003.

The powerful style of the new front, with the bigger grille, is inspired from the Aero X Concept. Other trademarks from the Concept are the smaller side grilles and the v-shaped hood. Expect some chrome in the grilles and also a chrome stripe on the upper side of the headlamps. Both the front bumper and the bumper in the back are new, and together with the missing décor stripes on the doors as well on the bumpers, it gives the new 9-3 a cleaner look. Also the door handles are new. It looks like they are the same as on the Cadillac BLS. The shape of the rear lights will remain the same, but there will be optional LED lights.

Saab’s aggressive new 9-3 Cabrio scooped

http://www.motorauthority.com/cars/s...abrio-scooped/

Quote:
Just a week after the previous Saab 9-3 spy photos, an eagle-eyed car lover has managed to snap pictures of the 9-3 facelift sans disguise using his camera phone. The new photos reveal more aggressive styling front and rear compared to the previous model, which was almost universally panned by critics.

Mechanically, the updates to the 9-3 are even more significant. First up, Saab will be introducing an AWD system sourced from Haldex that’s rumoured to feature a new electronic differential. The new diff is said to be better suited at distributing force during slides and contributes to stabilizing the car around corners.

In addition to the new AWD system, Saab engineers have upgraded the turbo V6 engine, which is expected to output close to 300hp in the new Aero model. Visual enhancements include the new clear, vertically stacked taillights on the wagon model. Up front, the car picks up chrome highlights surrounding the headlamps and a new grille design inspired by Saab’s Aero X concept.

^^ That looks aight, but not all that different than what the current SAABs look like. Looks way more of an evolutionary change than any drastic difference. I think it will appeal much more to existing SAAB owners and not really innovative enough to attract new customers.

...should be blown up by jets so they can start from scratch. That's not impressive...looks the same as current Saabs, except with an uglier rear end and ugly wheels (not to mention tough to clean).

yeah, but they are talking about a 300hp V6 (current aero is 250?) and AWD from Haldex with more focus on performance than current systems (think Volvo S60R replacement).
