Default wheel spacer on 8" wheel

I have searched and searched til I can't anymore. So I will just ask the question and hope not to be flamed I am running an 18x8 wheel with a 48 offset on my 02 wrx. I am looking for a wider stance and a wider tire (running a 225/40 right now) Looking at wheel spacers, what would be the greatest I could go without doing too much damage to the bearings etc. And what width tire will I be able to get away with (245/40)? I want the wheels and tires to be as flush as possible to the fenders.

Just get some 255 width tires and leave the spacers alone.

Werd, don't bother with spacers as the widest you can use with stock lugs is 3mm anyways which is basically useless. Just get 255's.
