At first I thought you meant to type Air to water intercooler, but then I saw where the throttle body is. What does this actually do, if the intake isn't even connected to it? Or is it like an oil cooler, except it's water-cooled instead of air-cooled?

ummm WTF is a water to water intercooler you retards?!?!?! water != into engine!
how the hell did this guy get pics? GM worker??
I like how the American employees like to betray their company [Someone leaked pics of the new Avenger taken inside the factory].

It is a air to water IC, heat from the air going into the manifold gets transfer to the coolant in the IC that gets transfered to the radiator/heat exchanger and then to the atmosphere.
This is the same setup as the Cadillac S/C V8.
I'm surprised that the blower sits so low in the bank. So the intake leads to the supercharger and then the air goes up to the intercooler on top and there should be a pipe somewhere that leads into the intake manifold/engine.

Btw is that a cam gear with a belt on it on the left head??

Default power steering pump

rice H8R,
That's an accessory pump of some sort... it's a pushrod engine so the cam (singular) is in the block, pushing rods The only reason I think it's the power steering pump is the reservoir is right next to it.

Shipping company employee carted off to jail for Corvette SS pics

Quote:
We've just learned that EMO TRANS, the shipping company that was hired by General Motors to transport a Corvette SS mule to Germany for testing on the Nurburgring, has fired the employee who took pictures of the vehicle and posted them on the internet. In addition, the unnamed employee has been taken to jail, though we don't know what charges have been filed against him. For our part, we've removed the pics from Autoblog for fear of GM's wrath. The automaker has been reportedly approaching various sites all day requesting the images be removed, so rather than waiting for the phone to ring we've gone ahead and taken them down.

This clearly illustrates how seriously GM is taking the development of the Corvette SS, as well as how utterly embarrased and apologetic EMO TRANS must be for the actions of its employee. It's all fun and games on our side of the fence because we got to see some real, informative shots of this very special Vette, but it reminds us that there's a lot of money on the line. We're sure that GM didn't appreciate pics of this powerplant were available for every other automaker to peruse. Lesson learned, though harder for some than others.

We'll keep you updates as more concrete and verifiable info becomes available

That's how serious leaking information gets. I don't want to go to jail. The first time I heard "Boy you sure gotta pretty mouth," I'd be poop myself.

What would they charge him with? Jail time implies criminal conduct, so I'm not sure what they could possibly come up with to jail him for.

I'm sure he signed a contract with confidentiality clauses. he could have been tresspassing in an area he wasn't authorized for. there are a lot of possibilities.

26 years ago, the Corvette looked like this:

Today, the Corvette looks like this:

Seems like a reasonable amount of change to me.

GM is in the car game, they shouldnt be shocked that someone leaked there pictures. If it was that important for the car not to be seen they should have had a rep. there to watch it.

Haha was it really worth it to post those pics for that guy? Well thanks to that guy, we the public know what GM is planning now: they are putting a blower on the escalade engine which will produce an incredible amount of HP.

Trespassing maybe. Confidentiality, civil issue so it wouldn't be jail.

There's a big difference between someone on the outside snapping spy photos and something like this. FHI would blow a gasket over something like this. This would be like the transport company entrusted with bringing the 08 impreza here for testing snapping pictures while the car was in their car... knowing that the point of using them is to keep the car masked up. These kind of intimate pictures do a lot of damage. It's not about keeping the public in the dark. It's about keeping the competitors in the dark. There's a lot of money on the line.

First of all if the transport company that is bringing the 08 Impreza over took pictures, it would be great! We can get rid of half of these threads that speculate about what the car would look like.
Second, as far as damage to GM, its like I said if it was that important they would have had a rep. there to watch the car.
I understand what is on the line for GM and I get your point, but would you leave this important of a car with a transport company? I wouldnt. You cant control their people and what they do. They should know that there are people trying to get spyshots of it and that those shots will be leaked to the internet.
I think it is a bad move on the part of the guy that took the photos, but when there is money to be had for them, could you blame him?

Who knows what the circumstances were. There could have been a rep there. The rep could have gone to pee. It could have been a total con job to get the pics... who knows. There is always an opportunity for things like this to happen no matter what. You have to hope you have the kind of people trustworthy enough not to seek internet fame in lieu of the prosperity of their company and ultimately themselves.
