Default Red Line Oil

Hi all. I've been contemplating switching to Red Line engine oil. I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic at 3000 mi intervals. The biggest reason I am thinking about the change is to extend the change interval. I think I would go to 7500 mi interval for oil and filter. Any of you guys/gals have any experience using Red Line? What interval do you guys use? The Red Line web site claims up to 12,000mi interval. This seems too high to me. What do you guys think?

Personally, I would go with MOTUL 300 V 15W 50 for the engine oil and tranny & diffs MOTUL 300 GEAR OIL 75W90. Have used Redline in the past with my Bimmer but after 3 months, need to change already. Results are from autocrossing with both cars.
Try a motorcycle dealership. I got mine in Edmonton @ a SUZUKI shop for $19.00 each for the engine oil & $21.00 for the gear oil..

Good luck,
Peace out

Cool, thanks for the reply. Anyone else have any experience with Redline Oils?

I don't use Redline oil, but I do use another high quality synthetic called Lubro Moly. This is an imported German synthetic oil that is used in (iirc) Benzes. I've been using it for about 15k miles and my car runs great!

You are just wasting money by changing mobil 1 at 3000 miles!

It has been suggested to me to simply change the filter at 3k miles and then add in some more oil to replace what was lost with the filter change. Then at 6k miles, replace both oil and filter.

Of course, if you have money to burn.... be my guest and change every 3k miles.

So what do you guys think about changing Redline engine oil and a K & N oil filter at 7500 mi intervals (as suggested by SOA). I think the oil would be fine, but what about the filter? Is 7500 mi too much for a high quality filter such as the K & N?

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you expect to change a filter and not change oil ? When you unscrew a filter in most cars all your oil drains. Do you suggest pouring it back in the engine ??

il96, the filter can be changed without losing all of the oil. Most of the oil will be in the oil pan. Only a small amount (approx. .5 qt.) will be lost when replacing the filter only because of the oil that is settled in the filter. So if you want to change just the oil filter without replacing the oil, just remove the filter, and replace the oil was lost by removing it. It's still a messy process though.

I'm using Redline now but with my next change I'm going back to Mobil One. Reason you say? I noticed no difference except that the Redline seemed to blacken quicker than Mobil One ever did. I've heard that you should pick one and stay with it, something about the different ingredients in oils don't mix well?

Also the Redline is 6.49 where I go, thats per quart, not worth it. As for the change intervals I swap filters at 4,000 m and oil at 7,000 to 8,000 and that may be jumping the gun. Plus by replacing the oil that you loose with the filter change your refreshing the detergents in the oil making for a happy motor.

Good luck and keep it clean!

Lubro Moly is kinda expensive too. It costs me $30 (I believe $50 retail) for a 5 liter container.

Ok, thanks for the replies, I've about convinced myself to extend drain intervals to 7500 mi. with redline synthetic. I guess my biggest question is: Is it really necessary to replace the oil filter (K & N brand) in between the 7500 mi oil change? I'm leaning toward not doing it, because Redline claims that the additive pkg. in their oil helps disperse and suspend the grime for a longer period of time than "regular" synthetics. Doobie, maybe that's why the Redline seemed dirtier??
