EG33 into a 94 Legacy
Fellas I'm in need of information. I'm looking for any information about an EG33 swap into anything but an SVX. MY SVX is ready for Decommission. I have far to many new problems and I still haven't had a chance to fix all of the old problems. I'm looking into swapping the EG33 into my 94 legacy. The legacy has proved to be a more reliable car and I'm looking into vamping it up a bit. If this EG33 swap is a possible job to do then I'm going to do it.
Where can I find any information about this swap? Thanks ~Justin

the wiring part isn't too difficult. the stock ECU is pretty simple, and would be pretty easy to make it work outside of it's original car.....
but, it won't fit. the engine is quite a bit longer, so you'll have to move the radiator. not to say it can't be done...but you've got your work cut out for ya. |

I think physically fitting it in is the least of your worries... sell the SVX and buy a EJ20G maybe?

I've never seen it done, but I do know it will not fit between the stock tranny and radiator. |

My point was there are even further challenges beyond the actual re-locating of the motor, ie wiring, exhaust, etc.

I made an EJ22 fit and run in an loyale. this meant stripping down the stock legacy harness to just the bare essentials to make the engine run, give it power, a bunch of grounds, couple wires to the ignition switch, couple wires into the dash, and you're golden. The EG33 just has a couple more wires for the extra 2 injectors and ignition coil. jedz. if you're up to the task of moving the radiator forward a few inches, the rest isn't too tough. I wrote a walk-through of the EJ22 swap that would be a great start to your wiring challenge. and I also know of a guy that put an EG33 into an XT6, so he'd know how to make the EG33 run using the stock ECU in something other than an SVX. |

I'm already making arrangements do borrow a friend's car for about a month so I can do this project. It looks like I will be doing this sometime within the next couple of months. I'm going in to work and requesting a Vacation so I can spend every day on the project...It's just to cold and snowy right now to start the project(I don't have a garage). I'm really excited, I writing up a plan of attack for the project I'll send it to you when It's all set. Cause when I do this I'm also replacing the sport tuned suspension and the leather seats It will all be in the plan of attack. I will get in touch with Huck and get some more info about the swap as well...

BAM! I got my vacation set for 4/8-4/16 .
My write up on my plan of attack is almost done. I just purchased a welder and an engine lift. I'm hoping that the weather is good next week so I can start transferring chassis parts on to the Legacy....I don't know about you guys but it has been nasty wet and cold up here. I also have my new battery and charger for my digital camera coming in the mail soon. I want to document the whole project...just in case someone else wants to try something like this. |

Well Guys I have started Swapping things into the Legacy I thought I would let you know that I have just finished Putting the leather seats into the Legacy. It wasn't easy and I had to do alot of welding to fab the brackets to make them fit.
BUt here is the end product Here is some of the welding for the brackets The job took me about 4 hours to do...I think it would have been faster if it wasn't my first time welding with an arc welder...but there always has to be a first time for everything. I will deliver more pics of this project as they come....I'm going to eat lunch |

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP:
WELDING IS DANGEROUS ALWAYS USE PROPER ASSOCIATED PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT!! seriously Jackie get some cheap gloves for your hands. The first time you have hot slag spatter or drip on your skin you'll regret it! (just don't like to see people get 3rd degree burns it they can avoid it) way to go doing it your self though! I hope to do the same. MT SVX though. |

The Swap Continues but this time I've started the big project...Engine swap...
Wires Wires Every Where but Damn I'm scared to snip! Today I removed everything till I got to the firewall...wow what a process. It took me about 5 hours to get to the firewall and have nothing but wires left to work with. I have to say I have spent about 6 hours total today on the car. I got my self setup for tommorow so I can start the montonious job of spliting and rewiring wires. The amount of wires in this bad beast is intense! OH well enough with me rambeling how about some pics A pic @ 2 hours into the project Alright 5 hours in and everything I wanted out IS OUT! My attempt at Organising wires LOL I called it a day after this. hA Ha The Ecu is out and mine. Tommorow I plan on splicing... Thats going to suck but I'll get it done and over with. Once my harness is seprated from the pandemonium of the SVX I'll be able to install the ECU and Harness onto the Legacy. I am going to be running both ECUs so I can drive with the 2.2 until engine swap day...so it's as easy as pull the 2.2, drop 3.3, plug, play, and roll. Of cource I will modify the engine bay to accomodate for the new and larger motor. OH well I'll keep you guys updated I'll post some more pics tommorow after I get the harness out and ready for the swap . |
