TiC Holy Shift

I put the Holy Shift into my 2007 STi this weekend and have some initial impressions.

What it is: A complete replacement of every pivot point in the shifter mechanism with harder durometer material.

This includes:

* Front stay (Kartboy)
* Rear stay (Kartboy)
* Lever pivot (TiC)
* Linkage bushings (TiC)

The install: Not bad really. Once the transmission support cradle is out of the car, the shifter is easy to get to. I did not drop my midpipe as they suggest, but you may have to with an OEM system. The only tricky part is deciding whether to punch out the roll pin or remove the bolt in the shifter U-joint assembly (necessary for replacing the linkage bushings). Each has its own perils and I chose the latter. A little prying and the transmission moves enough to extract the bolt. I liberally greased every point as I hate squeaks and it seems to have done the trick.

The feel: Much more positive into the gates with no slack whatsoever. I liked the shifter before and now I'm bordering on love.

Drawbacks: The stiffer bushings transmit a bit more noise into the cockpit, but I've really only noticed it in 3rd and 4th gear. I would class the noise as "sporty" rather than "annoying".

I would recommend this upgrade if you place a lot of value on your shifting experience.
