Default Toyota unveils Corolla Super 2000 rally car

Toyota unveils Corolla Super 2000 rally car

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/02/t...000-rally-car/

Quote:
Toyota has a lot going on at the Melbourne Motor Show this week. In addition to the Aussie debut of the new Corolla (right), a new Super 2000-spec rally car is also on hand, resplendent in red-and-white TRD livery. 2006 Australian Rally Champion Simon Evans and rally team leader Neal Bates were on hand for the presentation of the new racer, which is powered by a 2.0 liter, 255 horsepower normally-aspirated four-cylinder that runs up to the class-mandated 8,500 rpm maximum. It weighs in at around 2500 pounds.

As is the case with other Super 2000 rally cars, electronic aids are prohibited and not present on this new Corolla, which will see its first racing action in June.

I believe they have been putting a few of those into FIA S2000 rallies all over the place. This isn't WRC spec (but it may be in a few years).

Also, this isn't an Auris. The Auris is a bit bigger IIRC. This is still a Corolla.

No, actually, the hatch isn't that new. Although the Corolla Wagon/Hatchback hasn't been seen in the states since '93 (or thereabouts), they've kept the hatch/wagon alive and kicking in other markets.

Hatchbacks have always been very popular in rally.

All of the factory cars except Subaru...

(Mitsu doesn't have a factory team, all EVOs are privateers running 05 spec cars.)

By revving to 8500RPM, and by a lot of really good engineering.

Mitsu's will be hatches if they run the Evo X's (since IIRC mitsu is going to start rallying again) and Subaru will be a hatch by 2008 as the new Impreza's are hatches.

You can do it with Honda K20 motors on sotck bottom ends with a litle head work and tuning. From the factory though is just badass! Make those for sale at that power level here!

So, how do you all think it will compare to the Gp N imprezas?

Engine power is not likely to even come close, but the weight differance might be a deciding factor. Suspension details?

The Ford Fiest Super 2000 and the Fiat Punto Super 2000 raced in a few of the WRC stages in 2006 alongside Group N cars. Despite reliability issues, the Super 2000 cars are on par in terms of speed with the Group N cars.
