Default Other open track projects in the Northeast

Following up on the Englishtown track news, here are a couple of other projects that look pretty promising. Both of these are located in Pennsylvania, well within range of dedicated track enthusiasts like myself.

www.rauschcreekracing.com - Rausch Creek Motorsports Park (RCMP), which is near Harrisburg, PA, was actually supposed to open in spring 2001, but they ran into construction delays last year. I think construction was further delayed this year by problems with the DEP about drainage/runoff from the newly constructed track. Now they say they'll open in spring 2002. The track is a pretty sweet looking 2.31mi course with 300' of elevation change (that's a lot!). http://www.rauschcreekracing.com/roa...cinglayout.php . For me, leaving from the southeastern corner of CT, it should be about a 4.5-5hr drive - a bit closer than Watkins Glen.

http://www.libertybellmp.com/index.html - Liberty Motorsports Park sound like it could be even cooler than RCMP, but I'm not even sure construction has begun yet (whereas RCMP is nearly complete). From the website it appears they're still in the planning stages. If it comes to fruition, the highlight will be a 2.73mi road course. Kind of a simple looking track (the green one here http://www.libertybellmp.com/HTML/trackmap.html ). Kind of a small Watkins Glen, only a couple spots where the corners flow together, for the most part it looks like straight, turn, straight, turn.... But that's still plenty o' fun, and this place will only be about 4hr away (near Reading, PA). Based on what is said here http://www.users.fast.net/~nescca/ it sounds like the facility stands a good chance of being completed, as the locals don't want another landfill.

I can't believe that there are all these tracks opening! Great news.

What about the super track that was supposed to be in the Springfield, MA area? Sorry I don't have any more details, I'll see if I can find some.

NER-SCCA has been researching becoming a racetrack owner-operator, also. At one time they had a line on a site in Palmer MA, not too far off the Mass Pike.
Possibly this is the source of the Springfield area idea.
I'm unsure of the current status of the NER search - there will probably be an update at the annual meeting in January.
The idea is to find an adeqaute area to be used for multi-use; racetrack, soloII, and rallycross; and rent it to other groups to augment income (ie, BMWCCA, NESCC, FCSCC, NESIC?)

cheers!

Hmmm, hadn't heard about the NER-SCCA thing. That would be wicked pissah if they were able to create a track in Mass. It's a major undertaking, though, so I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Wow, Rauch Creek is almost done!?! Thats right in my back yard (okay 2 hours)

That sure beats 6 hours to VIR or 3 to Summit.

MMMMM thanks Pat!

HA, HA, HA! Good decision, Pat! We've only been hearing reports on the search at annual meetings for at least 5 - 7 years.
The major selling point supposedly would be avoiding LRP & NHIS's yearly rental increases - neither makes any special prices just because it is SCCA.
The committee have a good idea of the costs & work involved running a track - supposedly have some manager volunteers.
I think it even involved possibly selling stock or ownership shares.

Here's a link to the committee's last press release/update: http://www.ner.org/News/newtrack.html

cheers!

Rumor has it that Skip Barber is considering building a track at the former Weymouth Naval Air Station... Boston BMW CCA is running all of next year's autocrosses there, and it looks like NER may have some too...

Hey Pat, have you heard anything about Mohegan Sun re-opening the old speedway?
I was following it for a while, but I lost the links to the page.
