Default Tach is being stupid!

Ok so i took out my gauge cluster today to look and see how hard it is to change the color on my gauge cluster. I touched the needle on my tach a couple times on the speedo. Finally when i plugged everything back in my speedo was fine but my tach would not move. I unplugged and it tried to see what happened but not really to familiar with this electrical stuff. After i replugged it, the tach would move and seemed to be right but its very "sticky" and jumpy. Not smooth what so ever.

Anyone know what might have happened and what i need to do to fix it???

Just how hard did you "touch" the needle? They do not like to be disturbed, many people have ruined their clusters by pulling the needles off to change the gauge faces.
If you're lucky you may be able to manipulate the needle to work properly again, but if not you will need a new cluster.

i didnt touch it to hard. But its possible that the not to hard was enough to damage it. If replacing the gauge is what i need to do, what would i do about mileage and everything

You do not have to replace the entire gauge cluster, you can order just the part of the unit you damaged. It is a lot cheaper this way as well from what I've read.

I had the same issue and may know what the problem might be but it's a little difficult to explain. If it is the same issue I had then you do not need to buy any thing just need to go back and check your needle.

If you look between the needle and the guage face, there is a little black plastic ring that might've been pushed up into the needle housing that you need to bring down. It holds the guage face down away from the needle housing. I'm sure that made no sense but I'm pretty sure it's the same thing that I experienced. PM me if you have questions and I'll see if I can explain better.

Here's the quote from Trunk_Monkey's tutorial if that helps you understand better.

Hope that helps.
