Default Tire Size/Summer Tire Question

will 225/40/18 tires fit 18X8.5 rims? reason i ask is i found a set of Bridgestone S-03 PP brand new for faily cheap but it's in 225/40 which i think might not be wide enough for 8.5" wide rims?

also if those wont fit, what other summer tires will you guys recommend? i dont want something with a tredwear of 80 lol... i need something that can grip well when i want to yet something that lasts... thanks!

^ would u by any chance have a pic of how the stretched rubber looks like? i dont think i would like the stretched look since i'm looking for something more squarish looking size... like the stock RE070 on the STi BBS wheels...

I did a quick search in the Tires & Wheels forum but found nothing... Why do people stretch their tires on purpose?

they think it looks cool, usually the guys with fancy chrome rims that do it...

edit: got a pic http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...Picture016.jpg

get some pilot sport ps2 or something if you want them to last a little bit (at least longer then a kumho mx or something)

The amount of stretch also depends on the actual width of the tire, some brands of 225's are wider than other brands 225's.

Stretch is only cool on VW's and drift cars

not really stretched at all actually.. but compared to my 7.5" wide rim, yes it does look a bit stretched.. so..

ps: after looking at the link above.. mine is by no means stretched then..

if you can see the rim from a top view then it is a bit streched in my opinion.

np RX..

haha.. well i guess it's stretched then.. but it doesn't look bad at all imo.. gotta becareful with curbs though..

i try to keep both sets of wheels the same OD so the alignment would not be off too much every time i swap wheels..

and i would not go beyond 225 on the front because the ride sucks on the street and the steering is less responsive to me (too heavy).. gotta keep the quickness.. lol
