And that's the difference between cars like this and the Veyron. In one of them Captain Slow can do 253mph on a damp road, in the other you have a racing driver complaining about wheel spin at 190mph.

A car that anyone can drive up to absolutely retarded speed versus a rolling death with a smile.

Sorry but who wouldn't complain about wheelspin at 190mph.

Someone driving a car with no traction problems, for example.

Wheelspin at 190 is ridiculous, I'd probably need a change of shorts breaking loose at that speed.

This car is crap. SSC originally made cheap Diablo kit cars using steel spaceframes and Chevy small-block V8s in the 90's. Then, Jerod Shelby, the head cheese of SSC decides he wants to have his own bespoke supercar. Barely changes the design from his Lambo kits, rips parts from other manufacturers instead of designing his own (someone mentioned that the headlights look like they're from another car. That's because they are. They're sourced from Ford's Focus.) and ends up with this hideous creation. He claims it to be the anti-Bugatti, yet the Aero project began 2 years before VW even though of creating the Veyron. It's cheaply made, it's ugly, and the top speed record is greatly overrated. Anyone can tell you that on a track, top speeds of this magnitude are low priority. The thing people like the SSC team don't unerstand is that cars like the McLaren F1 and the Veyron weren't just built to momentarily hold a record. This car will be lost to history like most poser wannabes are.

Veteran road racer Rick Doria was the man picked to drive the 1183bhp SSC. On his first test run, he reported wheelspin when shifting into 6th gear at 190mph, and went on to 221mph.
There' a reason why the 1001hp Veyron is awd - that's just scary!

So anyone can calculate the theoretical maximum speed from the vehicle weight, Cd, frontal area, gearing and power. But the real question is if this thing is going to be safe to drive at that speed, even for couple of minutes.

As for the Veyron vs. this car, I'd much rather a car like the Aero TT. True, the Veyron may be more stable at 230mph, but who the hell cares? Even if you track the car, you'll never hit that speed. From what I've read, the Veyron handles suprisingly well for a 4100 lb car, but I have to believe the Aero TT will be much more nimble. And I don't know about you, but I prefer good handling to top speed potential.

Bingo. The Veyron is a thoroughly engineered marvel. This is more or less a kit car with a big V8 in it.

The difference between these two cars is not the top speed potential. The difference is that one of them was built to be useable by an army of engineers with a billion dollar budget, own wind tunnels and the world's biggest test track. The other one is essentially a tube frame with Focus headlights and a V8 running too much boost, built by a company that until recently couldn't even spell "intercoolers" correctly on their website ("innercoolers").

As for being more trackworthy, I don't think a mid-engined 1200hp RWD car with a quite some turbo lag will be particularly useful in that environment, and a 2-valve turbo engine making nearly 200hp/l WILL be laggy.
