Anyone have an example of wheels painted with the gold metalizer? I saw one example, but it wasn't very good. I am looking for something that is similar to the gold bbs look.

I'm planning on doing my trim on my 04 today.
I'm thinking sand with 2000 or so, clean, then primer and paint? Or with Plasti-dip do I not need a primer? Also, should I go with Plasti-dip or Dupli Color Vinyl & Fabric? I don't want it to stray too far from door panel trim colors. Last edited by WRXGOBerserk; 10-20-2012 at 05:19 PM. |

Just finished some of my trim. 4 coats, 35 minutes in between coats. Am I not getting a good cover on it? It's more textured than I'd like. More coats? Hold the can closer? I'm spraying from 8-12" away.
I'd like it to come out a little more glossier than this. Can I adjust and do another 1-2 coats to get that or should I start over? ![]() ![]() |

I dipped my wheels 2 days ago. 6 coats. Went through get-go's car wash and it peeled off on some spots -_- I took it all off today.

You want to be around the 6" range when shooting to give a more smoother finish.
Came off with a pressure washer??? Honestly, I abused my wheels with pretty much everything and nothing has peeled. Even with harsh wheel cleaners and dressing. Still holds up good. In the year and a half i had it on,the only thing i noticed was it thinning out and slowly exposing the finish i dipped. |

Has anyone tried painting on top of plast dip? I'm thinking of dipping my roof rails and then spraying the STI logo on them. I assume that should work, but I wanted to see if anyone has attempted it.

From what I understand, there's some type of glossifire that you can spray on top of the plastidip that will gloss it up. I'm not sure if its made by the some company or not though.

Lots of people have painted on top of Plasti-Dip, from what i have read it simply makes it harder to get off later.

DO not prime or sand before you plasti dip. Just wash your car, and make sure its dry. I tried peeling the crap off of my sanded trunk and It doesn't peel well at all (which is bad if you need to re-do it)
I did my entire car using cans. Took me 15, and I absolutely love it. ![]() ![]() |

Looks really cool. How's your finger from spraying 15 cans? :-)

^ I highly advise it. 15 cans at 6$ a can was a cheap/ affordable paint job. Get a sprayer though.... hah
Well, i'm a bass player so I've got meaty fingers but man, talk about cramping up to the max. I'll definately invest in a sprayer eventually. |

I basically did around 6-10 solid layers at least. For example: I'd start and do a layer on one fender, then do a layer on the opposite side, and let dry or move onto another part of the car. The key is to really get a good coat and LET IT SETTLE/DRY to form the solid coat.

Get one of these for the big jobs. I do a lot of wiper arms and steelies at work and it is a big improvement over the finger cramps associated with such work.

How do you get multiple coats where you've taped off without having to recover for each coat?
